Anyone know when they are canning the ‘doorway/hatch service only’ rule? Was always pointless but utterly mad to still have it at this point. What risk is there when standing inside Starbucks?

I think it was an act of desperation. Cases were going up, and it was just about the only thing left to do.

Still some places I've walked into, I walked into a takeaway other day. Some bakeries you can too.

I think it was an act of petulant spite when it was pointed out that people were out and about far more than they had been in lockdown one. Infections were already comfortably declining when it got implemented

That's actually probably more like it.

It is, by far in my opinion, one of the most ridiculous rules to come out of this so far, especially at this stage.

I was surprised it wasn’t ditched on the 5th to be honest. It always struck me as a rule that was imposed with removing it in mind. The government would look good as they were easing rules, when in reality it didn’t really have any effect either way.

That's because bakeries are defined as essential retailers - not takeaways/fast-food providers/whatever. Although I'm not sure where the likes of Greggs fit into this...

Indeed. I honestly thought it'd be one of the first "rules" to be ditched - long before April!

I don't think that will stop a steady stream of Scottish banknotes being used in Berwick, Carlisle and Newcastle from April 12th! <D

Indeed, I have trips booked to all three over the next two weeks starting with Berwick-upon Tweed on Thursday.

Cheap Advanced 1st Fares on LNER and AVANTI followed by a Pint of Kronenburg or Stella accompanied by a Double Malt...can't wait.

One other bizarre rule which appears not to have been lifted is the ban on drinking alcohol outdoors. The Police have siezed upon this after the youths were running wild in Edinburgh last weekend and there are prominent posters up saying alcohol is banned on the Meadows under coronavirus restrictions (unlike Glasgow, Edinburgh does not have local restrictions on consuming alcohol in greenspaces).

Yes in their determination to "keep the meadows nice" they've done precisely nothing about the toilet situation or emptying the bins more reliably. They've just covered every lamppost with a sign saying either "no drinking" or "stay away from other people. They have the deadly virus. Fear them. Fear them". And then on Friday evening they literally flooded it with about 40 police going round in pairs threatening people with their sinister "words of advice".

Still hasn't deterred people drinking while having a picnic in front of Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

There was effectively a police road block at the top of Middle Meadow Walk, presumably questioning any groups of youths. All seems a bit heavy handed. Similar police presence yesterday - for context, it was snowing at 6pm last night, so I doubt there would have been wild parties like the weekend before anyway...

When should we hear confirmation on if the April 26th easing is going ahead, should be this week given it marks just over two weeks to go (yay!)

Entirely pointless, but I suppose the police can see their lovely overtime slipping away, and need to maximise the last of their paid sunshine ambles through the park.

You bring a point that I agree with, its the same in Dundee, its in a way a law you aren't meant to be drinking outside but yet during this pubs were "with meal" or whatever it was the Scot Gov came away with, (before anyone jumps I rather pubs opened as per usual none of these idiotic rules regardless).

I have always thought in this part of it all a bit "off".

and I quote:

The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in public places within the area identified, as detailed in the "Dundee City Council Prohibition of Consumption of Alcohol in Designated Public Places Byelaws 1999". The bye laws do not apply on 31st December from 6pm until the end of the day, and on 1st January until 6am. https://data.gov.uk/dataset/0ce90901-acc5-4a44-80b7-d491af923c9b/alcohol-prohibition-areas-dundee

This is something going back to earlier....

Scotland is going into a tougher lockdown with bans on everything from takeaways to shopping and outdoor drinking. ... First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced drinking alcohol outdoors will be banned in all level 4 areas of Scotland, putting an end to takeaway pints. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/laws-drinking-public-scotland-explained-23318478

Pubs were having marquees/tents for people to use outside - so on a technicality you got away with drinking outside whilst its prohibited in an area (I wonder how many people have accidentally been fined for following these rules to then they point out its opposite?)

Not really, given the mass brawls that have been happening down there.

As Pubs and Shops reopen in England today, what was the science that enabled Hairdressers to open a week before those in England yet the Pubs and Shops two weeks afterwards ?

Probably the "science" that said Nicola Sturgeon needed a haircut. :D

A lot has been made out of that fight. Seems like the local residents were very fast to latch onto it to moan about the rubbish.

The fights, like the buses getting bricked, are basically what happens when you cut off teenagers from all support, entertainment and supervision for months at a time. If you flood all the police in the city into one area the fight will just move somewhere else, probably somewhere less suitable where property can get damaged.

Even when Scottish Pubs reopen in 2 weeks it is still going to be on a more restrictive basis than those in England, why are rolling over and taking all this ?

It’s just weird...science to me! (cues up theme from the film/tv show) lol

I’m guessing the public believe Nicola is a saint and is keeping Covid at bay so we must all bow down to her as she is worthy!

Reality is and has always been .. be different trying to prove to the worlds media she is better than anyone else in this but on the other is rarely held accountable regardless by the media but be Boris on the other.

What can be done though? Fair enough people are ignoring the punitive measures, but licensed premises have to follow the rules. There's an election but half the electorate vote based on independence so the current failed administration will be back before we know it.

What's the betting she'll find an excuse to delay Foreign Travel from May 17th even if it goes ahead in England ?

She probably believes keeping us locked up will prevent COVID coming from anywhere, stark reality COVID will get in anyway regardless of measures, its time she woke up to the facts than the usual duck/dive/deflect approach
