Tell them you are open to either valleys or mainline.

That way you will get priority for a course over one particular route. Unless your closer to Taff's well only then I would consider valleys
Thanks both

I’m in Merthyr so closer to Taffs wells!

Taffs wells would probably be were I would be based from once its complete I take it? (If I pick valley)

I was also told the talent pool is empty so won’t be long before a start date!

Very interesting information. May I ask how likely is it that this information is correct please (are you confident about the source?)? I only ask as I've heard there are two intakes planned (one in August, one in September) and I've just had my medical. If there are no hiccups with the medical, I'm hoping to be recruited for one of these intakes.

Thanks.

I was told in the Dmi yesterday!

He said if successful it’ll definitely be this year and probably only a few months until a start date

which did you go for? Maybe I’ll be on a course with you! Not had my medical yet mind only found out I passed yesterday

how long after DMI was your medical?

I'm in Merthyr also start mainline course next Monday. Tbh I didn't mind where I was based asking as I could get the opportunity to start working. When your qualified you can request a transfer to a closer depot. Good luck with the start date

Have any of those applying for Cardiff been told that there's actually going to be a drivers depot at Taffs Well? At the moment, the only difference in commute between a driver based on Cardiff Valleys or Cardiff Mainline is the walk from St Patrick's house to either platforms 1-4 for Mainline or 6-8 for Valleys - everything is based out of the same office. I can't imagine they're planning on moving all 100 or so Cardiff Valleys drivers up the road to Taffs Well? Plus the units for the Rhymney Valley services which are worked by the same crews will still be based out of Canton.

I've been in the talent pool since September just had an email from Laura which line I'd prefer. Which is, I'm hoping of the my application moving closer to a start date anyone else had an email this morning

Nothing here, I'm guessing that's for a Welsh line?

Still waiting for any news on Shrewsbury, been in the talent pool since November but I hear the don't have enough instructors so may be in for a long wait.

Hi folks. Well done to everyone who’s progressing. I hate to sound down beat but I’m still waiting to hear anything more than a ‘still under review’ email. I have been studying for tests and doing interview prep but there’s only so much I can do before I start wondering if it’s worthwhile. Has anyone asked the question at an interview about how the pandemic has affected the recruitment program? Does TfW still want / need the hundreds of extra staff? And how secure is the role? I’m still thinking that it’s a dream job but I’m fortunate to be in a decent job at the moment and would hate to leave and then TfW realise they have too many on the books or the service fails to recover to pre-COVID levels. What are other people’s thoughts on this? An insider opinion would be great

Makes no real difference if your placed in valleys or mainline, you can always transfer after 2 years of driving.

The course starts next week has had people waiting in the talent pool from earlier this year. I know they have recruited recently so the pool will refill.

I've heard there is an October and December course (I'm internal)

Thank you for that. I'm guessing those courses are for South. Fingers crossed we will get some info for Chester.
Well done to everyone passing their paper tests recently and good luck with stage 2!
