2 more 700s to hunt down for mileage needs, thankfully one is on 8 miles the other 9 miles so won't need a long run. Some more overground units as well, might start needing to take my deckchair on the East London line for the remaining few DC only units

Another Monday, back at work. Tram 3145 turns up to take me there.

Just 3144 to go, then that's it for the fog'n'urine liveried travelling zoos.

This weeks trip was routing London - York - West Yorkshire - Manchester - Stoke - London.
I was mainly visiting new stations, so had to stick to my carefully crafted timetable.

Would have been rude not to sample my first 196 when in Wolverhampton and I noticed one was out.

Thanks to RTT I was able to spend a productive hour yesterday on my way back from Trafford Park, scooping in 331018, 331024, 331028 and 331030 on various services on the Oxford Road to Piccadilly corridor in Manchester. Lucky I'm not bothered about mileage... :)

If that means you need 800 033 as well, that one is finishing up at Stoke Gifford tonight ( paired with 800 010 ) so keep an eye on the diagrams which start from there tomorrow...

I'll check where it is when I'm next out on the trains.

Good haul from my neck of the woods I see
Yes, did a West Yorkshire Train Rover for an uncomplicated local(ish) trip during these short days. I don't need a great deal from the area so I was lucky with which 195's were about.
Now down to needing 1 x 195/0 and 1 x Class 333. Maybe next time!

Lucky I don't have a mileage requirement for haulage...

Likewise. I do like to get a decent amount of miles if practical, but I definitely don't aim for a certain amount these days. Life's too short for that! When it comes to miles on my cycles, then that is completely different

I don't take numbers but I got a 321, 801, 158 799, 170 273 (ex Anglia 2 car) 91 Mk4 and a 720 earlier this week, and yesterday I had a 321, 180 110, 222 006, 195 023, 150 123 and 148, 390 152 and a 720. I think 8 types of train in one day is my record.

A good haul, but if the trading of heating money was a serious comment o_O

9th December 2022 was a mini tourism day in London with family, short notice at that, but I managed a score!

No trams scored in Manchester this weekend, I gave up yesterday due to the cold (Cornbrook isn't the warmest!) And today due to the extreme busyness, didn't want to be in the position where one of the later 314X trams popped up and I wouldn't be able to board it.

However I did manage to tick 170530 off for renumbering from 630 on a little trip from Stoke to Crewe.

It could be cheaper to ride the trains all day in some circumstances!

A travelcard from here with railcard discount is under £10. A 2 kWh heater would cost 70p an hour with electricity at ~35p/kWh, so cheaper if running heating for 14 hours a day.

On my recent visit to Bradford with a West Yorkshire Day Saver I saw the same guard a couple of times and he did ask if I was saving money by not putting the heating on at home.

Surely though one negates the whole point of saving electricity at home (I can see why people would like the concept though) by putting oneself out in the freezing cold weather before and after each train? I have to confess I like being indoors at work at the moment, it's nice and warm so it's handy in that respect. I don't want to be there for any other reason though, and the exposure to the cold weather on the way to work kind of negates the benefit of work for the first couple of hours. The commute back late at night certainly doesn't benefit me, as I usually shove the kettle on ASAP to make a decaf coffee!

Anyway, all this is very off-topic! I have no plans to go red penning for the rest of this month, unless it's a no-strike day on Wednesday. If so, I might go out for one last day out, otherwise I am not scheduled to go on a train until 1227 on the 8th of January 2023. I hope to get some red pen action in that day, and I am guaranteed some red penning on the 9th of January when I do my first ever 374 :D

Don't get your hopes up for that....they're noisy, cramped and rather rough-riding. To paraphrase the handle of one of our regular contributors on TransPennine Express matters....gimme a 373 any day! (Come to think of it, though, the 374s have better and more spacious toilets!)

I think a lot of my excitement for the 374 is that they are one of the only train types left to sample in the UK, the 803s with Lumo being the only other sort to try. Your post made me think of an Abba song
