An ‘incident’ can happen to any driver at any time…..but like new car drivers, newly qualified train drivers have a higher risk for the first few years.
The basic premise to take from this is the less time you are in the cab driving then the less time there is in which an incident can occur...
I got the same choice a few years ago, I also turned it down and was offered a mainline position 7 mths later.
One thing to bear in mind is that shunt drivers start on the full salary and retain it during mainline training so do not drop to the £20+k trainee mainline rates…..helped a few out...
That’s what I’m thinking……people always focus on the possible negatives with these things. Kick yourself when you’ve been prodded about the odd answer you’ve dwelled and needed a little guidance on because you’re not expecting the question worded in a certain way.
They researched all the parts you guys have but mentioned one of the interviews was very stone faced so gauging a reaction was very awkward. The other person was very relaxed.
