    OAO on HS2 in theory

We don't live in a country that is going to throw ridiculous money on HSR that sits unused most of the time. Spain is unique in the level of infrastructure and its lack of use by the State run operator.

Class 89 image used in an unexpected video

Sorry, the thumbnail is completely different to the video. The train shown as soon as the video starts is the one I'm thinking of. It even looks like it might be debranded Freightliner Green.

Class 89 image used in an unexpected video

I thought in the spirit of this thread I'd just add this video I came across which appears to use a Class 66 (or continental equivalent) as the Locomotive of Kim Jong Un's personal train.

    How could Lumo expand/develop/improve?

The Scotsman article at least suggests that the Glasgow Terminus to be used is not yet decided, theoretically a 5 car AT300 would fit in Queen Street. I wonder if potentially a Falkirk call might be useful, if likely to fail on the Primarily Extractive test.

Substantial gap in new train deliveries

I recall reading about the use of redundant boat train/early 80s reduction in service rolling stock to bolster the business case for electrification on the Southern in the 1980s. Even without the integration and state owned rolling stock of that era, one would think these surpluses would...

Substantial gap in new train deliveries

Given they're already going to be built in Poland, I think that's unlikely.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

In some places, such as Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, there were agreements that engines would only burn coke when passing through particularly sensitive locations like this. These tended to end up being ignored however.

    GW 769s to Scotrail?

ISTR it was said that by the time the DfT pulled the plug on the 769/9s, they'd essentially ironed out all the issues with them, and it was just crew training left to sort out. No clue how accurate these sentiments were though.

    Chiltern tender for 20 - 70 units

Seems a difficult number for any one existing diesel fleet to match. 'Converted' is also a slightly curious word to use, given the document was going on about 'refurbishing' Voyagers and Pendolinos prior to that; no clue what if anything that might imply though. More generally, with the message...

    GW 769s to Scotrail?

Silver doors as reported upthread suggest it is a scotrail livery. The Orion units having always used body coloured doors.

Varamis Rail Given Operators Licence from ORR

At the time IIIRC it was said ROG didn't think it was profitable running trains with 4 coaches, they reckoned they needed 8 car trains to make it profitable. Obviously Varmis have operated with just a single 321 for most of this time, so perhaps we can suggest they have either lower operating...

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

If it's used 45%, then surely it's 55% remaining after 70 miles. Either way very impressive. Though I wonder if like most car batteries it's preferred to keep the SOC between 10 and 80% in normal use.

Order for 33 Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 EVs for Sound Transit.

There's a few differences such as the front axle which is further back on the 400XLB as approach angles are less of a concern here than, in Hong Kong say. Air conditioning is also an integrated feature of the 500, whereas the UK XLBs are as you say built on the 400 body which come standard with...

    HSTs to Nigeria

Given the stations listed, from what I can tell, Ilorin, Osogbo and Minna etc are all not served by Standard Gauge track. - So I would have to presume that these are destined for the narrow gauge system. Which given the professed plan to rehabilitate the narrow gauge system while additional...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I've personally witnessed a pair of 73s reversing the up Inverness portion (8* mk5) at Dunblane, when the Kippenross viaduct was closed due to high water levels. Certainly happens every so often.
