Network Rail to sell remaining Class 73s

73138 has been sold to GBRf.

    Eating smelly food on trains

Must be tempting for anyone treated like that to stand in front of/behind the vehicle so it can’t move off. And take your time eating them.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

And trains that taxpayers are paying for.

Euro + Olympics 2024 - dates to avoid?

The cities involved in Euro 24 are Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund. The Ruhr, in particular, looks to be a place to avoid, with four venues in the area.

Network Rail blasted over Dawlish sea wall death

There we have it. So you’re happy for people to do whatever idiotic things they like, but it’s fine because they can sue someone for it. And we wonder why Britain is such a screwed up mess.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

He doesn’t. Johnson is only interested in himself, his ego and the pursuit of power to massage that ego. Everything that has happened has been totally predictable - look up Max Hastings’ withering assessment of him.

Network Rail blasted over Dawlish sea wall death

Maybe it is about time that “Personal Responsibility” legislation was passed into law to stop others being penalised for someone’s stupidity?

29 new trains for Transpennine Express ?

I’m totally unconvinced that between unit gangways are worth it. Given how often you see trains with passengers standing at one end and a plethora of empty seats further down the train, they clearly don’t get used. That’s despite guards who make announcements to say there are seats free further...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Can both portions and three locomotives (the dead one, the rescue loco and the loco to take the train to Polmadie) fit in the platform at Glasgow Central? There may also be the question of where most passengers were going.

DB Cargo - Withdrawing from future Railtour Operations

I believe it was under XC’s own passenger licence? Almost the entire route was covered by XC’s existing operation.

What's been the single most exciting development for UK heritage railways in 2023?

That there is now a preserved, passenger-carrying train running at 125mph on the main line.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Exactly. They’ve had FOUR YEARS extra to get this sorted out. Just reinforces what an utter omnishambles SWR and WorstGroup are.

    EMR Class 360's

Given that the 350s are pretty much identical to a 360 (bar the front-end gangway) and the 350s are very reliable trains, what do you think?
  14. 43096

    Preserved class 60s.

Correct. The only locos to use it were 37796-803 and RK270-engined 37905/6.

TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

TfW won’t be making the decision to scrap the 150s (or not). It’s nothing to do with them.

    Eurotunnel/HS1 Inspection Train

Didn’t the Class 92s that run on HS1 have TVM430 modifications before they could do so? Certainly DB have/had different pools for HS1 capable locos.

Aslef strikes and OT ban called…

I’d like to know the logic of suggesting it in a thread about the drivers’ union. How do they stop collecting revenue?!
  18. 43096

    Class 317 withdrawals.

It depends on how the storage space is paid for. If Angel are leasing the space at Ely regardless of if anything is actually stored there, then there is no direct cost for storing the unit (they’re paying for the space regardless). If it is a “per vehicle” charge then it will be costing.

29 new trains for Transpennine Express ?

Rarely see wires? Their home depot is wired, even before we mention Norwich, Ipswich, Ely to Stansted etc etc.
  20. 43096

    Preserved class 60s.

It was the GEC alternator control cards, from memory. There were only 10 GEC alternators used in the Class 37 HGR programme, so they weren’t common to start with.
