AP tickets on SWT, Tfl, Virgin and Northern - strike action

I contacted South West Trains via Twitter. They have confirmed that they will accept my ticket, which is good news. However I'm still expecting problems at ticket barriers convincing barrier staff my ticket is in fact valid on a different date than on the ticket, since there is no information on...

AP tickets on SWT, Tfl, Virgin and Northern - strike action

Sorry I should have been clearer. The outward ticket (on the 8th April) is an Advance. The return ticket (for the 9th April) is an SVH. I want to still use the SVH on the 9th but change the outward ticket (the advance) to be the 7th.

AP tickets on SWT, Tfl, Virgin and Northern - strike action

I booked the ticket through Virgin Trains website as the return journey is on one of their "Half fare savers" or whatever it's called which is only available if booked direct with Virgin Trains. Virgin Trains are refusing to change the ticket without charging a £10 fee and in addition expect me...

AP tickets on SWT, Tfl, Virgin and Northern - strike action

Hello, I booked (back in January) an Advance ticket Woking to Maryport on the 8th April. The train I was booken on with Northern is cancelled and there is a replacement bus but it gets me there nearly 2 hours later. Instead I want to travel the previous day. The Northern Website...

[trivia] Longest difference in travel times between two stas by car/train

Barton-upon-Humber to Hessle. 12 minutes by car, around 3 hours by train.

New South Western franchise: Awarded to First/MTR

When I used to commute in the peaks to London (in the days of the VEPs) I always opted to stand in preference to sitting in the middle seat of 3. I wasn't the only one. There wasnt any "stand in the vestibule" option on those trains, of course! As to 442s vs 450s I remember being pretty...

Virgin Trains can't serve coffee without bags?

Eurostar serve tea and coffee without bags. Doesn't seem to cause a problem.

    SWT Engineering work this weekend

Where do you see this? I am clicking the banner at the top of the website "Major engineering work on South West Trains 4 & 5 March". It does not say anything about the times not being available, just tells you to check first.

    SWT Engineering work this weekend

Well I can only echo your sentiments. I thought engineering work was supposed to be planned about 3 months in advance (before they start selling AP tickets). Until fairly recently SWT used to put PDF timetables on their website for weekend engineering work. Now they don't, and it seems they...

    SWT Engineering work this weekend

Does anyone know what is happening with South West Train this weekend? The SWT website warns that major engineering work is taking place this weekend. For example that all lines are closed at Woking on Sunday and that you should check times on the National Rail website. Yet the Journey Planner...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

There actually are some flights that already run as "pilot only operation" (for want of a better phrase). No not 737s and the like but short hops to islands for example. I've been on flights to both the Isles of Scilly and Channel Islands that have had the pilot as the only member of staff on...

    TOCs' Complaints Responses

This does remind me of a case I had with East Coast trains a few years back. A delay just outside Grantham meant I (along with a number of other passengers) missed the connection onto the Skegness train. The next Skegness train did not go via Grantham so there was then a 2 hour delay. By the...

Changes to weekend travel restrictions on SWT

The whole situation is very odd. SWT have been offering a £15 ticket to I think anywhere on their network from January through to April but I think a similar promotion ran during the summer last year and I think for most of autumn/winter too. I seem to recall it was previously weekend only but...

Train companies such as GTR carrying out what appears to be entrapment

On SWT (and I've no idea if it's the same on all operators) the tickets have warnings in red text on the back and an additional "Penalty Fare Warning" ticket is issued.

    3tph on North Downs Line

It is not just air passengers that want to get to the airport, it's staff as well. And interchange passengers, as far more trains stop at Gatwick than Redhill.

    3tph on North Downs Line

Yes that certainly is big. But at least there seems to be both a staircase and a ramp on/off the bridge. Often now you only get the ramp so everyone has to walk around the long zig-zag to access the other platform.

    Passing through the barriers?

This is a tricky one. I believe once your journey is complete (I.E. you've reached the destination on your ticket) the rail operators are entitled to retain your ticket. So I don't think the gate staff were being unreasonable here. But I also know many companies (including the one I work...

    SWT new website live

Hmm yes gone from the front page certainly. Though you can still get the desired result if you enter your start and end points and do a search and once you've got the results you can then used the "advanced search" to specify a via point.

    SWT new website live

It seems the loss of the ability to speicfy a "via" point on the SWT website is now gone for good. I thought it was meant to be coming back with "phase 2" of the new website but I've now been told It seems an odd decision to me because it now makes it impossible to book tickets for South West...

Getting a Section 75 refund on a Season Ticket

Well done to Amex I say. I had a dispute recently with South West Trains where I booked a ticket on the website. But the collection number they gave didn't work so although paying for the tickets I could not collect them. SWT at the station and on twitter just directed me to call their customer...
