    Southern services to Winchester?

This is something which has struck me as odd how Southern serve Southampton Airport Parkway as part of the South Central franchise and Eastleigh as well.....but there appears to be no suggestion to run any service towards Winchester to replace the old SWT Brighton link. Would this be something...

Yapton LC - What can be done about it?

I understand that Yapton level crossing (between Ford and Barnham) has had a 20mph TSR for a while, 20mph like Winchelsea level crossing on the Marshlink. Any ideas if they are likely to do anything about this menace of a level crossing????....With 8tph in both directions during Off-Peak...

Dividing trains into separate portions at Fareham?

From what I recall, the Swansea-Brighton/Portsmouth & Southsea service used to divide at Fareham and ran with 2 155's. One half of the train would go to Portsmouth, the other half would go to Brighton. They continued this up until the early 90's....(I think?). Does anyone happen to remember...

    Sorting out the Marshlink

Having travelled along the Marshlink recently, I really do think some sort of improvement needs to be made to this line sooner rather than later, but nothing seems to be seriously proposed (at least i'm not aware of it). Some upgrades were made during the 9 week closure last year, but...

    United Kingdom/Ireland Tunnel?

Not sure if this has been discussed on here before, sorry if it has. However thought i'd start this thread to see whether or not you can actually see it happening, also which route you think it should take?....:)

Trivia: Which station has the most TOC's serving it?

With some rail franchises due to be combined over the next few years some stations that currently have more than 1 TOC may only see 1. But which station in the UK currently has the most TOC's serving it, am I right in thinking Crewe is a likely contender?

Have you ever used a rail replacement taxi?

Most of us will have encountered a time where we have had to use a rail replacement bus, but what about taxi's? Some rail companies offer a taxi service, if a rail service unavailable. A classic example of this is Newhaven Marine station where you can get a taxi to the Harbour station at no...

Folkestone Harbour Branch, what does the future hold?

Anyone know what the future holds for this branch line, I have read various things about this online and there is mention of it in the Southeastern franchise consultation. Network Rail propose to close it permanently, whilst I have read elsewhere that a long term option maybe to use it as a...

    The Coastliner Route 700

Those who live along the south coast maybe aware of the Coastliner bus service which runs between Brighton and Southsea (Portsmouth) on route 700, however it takes around 4 hours to do the journey end to end. Would be a lot quicker to get the train or even drive. So therefore I ask has anyone...

    Southern Railway Ticket Checks

Anyone else in the Southern region noticed the lack of ticket checks Southern are making these days, in particular on the 313's? :| I've also noticed a considerable absense of staff as well. There is definitely need for improvement! Under the proposals by the government to close ticket...

sussexspotter's opinions on XC service to Bath, and freight loco liveries

Is there a particuar reason why this 1 way Cross Country service runs on weekdays Mon - Fri from Bath Spa to Glasgow, or is it just an Orcats raid? Bath Spa isn't even listed on the Cross Country map which is rather bizzare...

    Sussex Rail Chords

Does anyone who lives in the south know anymore about these 2 rail improvement schemes? 1. Arundel Chord (north - east spur at Arundel Junction) 2. Willingdon Chord (east - west spur at Willingdon Junction, avoiding Eastbourne) Are these schemes likely to happen or have they now been...

My idea for re-establishing Cross Country Service To Brighton

Anyone think 1 perhaps 2 daily Cross Country services to/from Brighton and Newcastle would be a good idea. There used to be 2 services per day which opperated to/from Manchester and Brighton via Gatwick, East Croydon, Kensington Olympia and GWML. They were withdrawn by the DFt in 2008. I've...

Brighton Great Western Services? - New 2013 Franchise

Does anyone know what the current situation is with regard to this, as the 2013 franchise consulations have suggested the possible removal of these services which would just be insane if they did? Quote - DFT Great Western Franchise Consultation document...

    FGW HST To Brighton/Hove?

Just wondering if anyone knows whether it would be possible to run a FGW HST to Brighton/Hove or are they out of gauge? Recently there has been a few FGW HST workings down to Fratton in connection with Pompey v.s Swansea football matches (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73TvHj6Ciac) ....so that...
