    Trainee T&W Metro Driver Jobs

You may well be right - things change with time. I'm only speaking from my own personal experiences from when I did my psychometrics with metro (late 2020 I think?). Their standard was also National back then and they're enhanced now.......

    Trainee Driver Pass Out Rate

I'm a newly qualified driver so have less experience than baz but I'll echo the same - to fail is very rare but you do have to give it 110% for the first year or so. When you finish the 17 week course you might think the hard part is over - it isn't its only just started :) Feel free to pm me...

    Trainee T&W Metro Driver Jobs

For some reason Metro insist you retake the psychometrics even if they are valid. I'm not saying they're the only one's to make you do this but I'm not aware of anywhere else that does (unless the pass date is beyond the 18 month to 5 year validation period; depending on the TOC).

    Trainee T&W Metro Driver Jobs

I think if someone has passed psychometrics and is in a talent pool it's generally accepted that you should be applying for anything and everything in your area! Talent pool's often result in a job offer but not definitely - I think even metro would be expecting you to be applying elsewhere in...

    Assessments & Medicals discussion

I think everywhere does the Bourdon test on paper. Accuracy is the priority with speed coming a close second. You can't be expected to get every one right and I would suggest your accuracy is probably about there. I think you'll need to be doing a minimum of about 10/11 lines for each sheet to...

Am I being ungrateful for northern rail

I'm a newly qualified driver with Northern and although its early days I can say I've never had a job like it! Getting the job is hard work and so is the training but the rewards are most definitely worth it. The way you are treated and the pay are like no other job ive ever had (pay rise...

    Maintenance depot driver - Northern

The shift pattern is predominantly nights (don't know how many on/off), can't speak for definite re holidays but probably 5 weeks each to be taken as blocks of Sunday to Saturday. Bank Holidays are a normal day at work on the railway so if you're rostered it you work it (but you get 8 lieu days...

    Northern talent pool 2023

I think you have to be 90mins away from your depot before they put you up in a hotel now.......?

    Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Manchester/Liverpool/Hull (2/6/2023)

Sorry to hear this - it's one of the hardest tests to prepare for as there isn't really anything you can do to practice for it. All I can recommend is do as much research on here as possible into techniques people used who were successful on it (pm me if you like). I don't know if you're a gamer...

    Assessments & Medicals discussion

I suffer from hypertension and come from a police background where the second figure always had to be 90 or below. White coat syndrome often meant I had to either come back a week later or get a reading from my doctor etc to get it below the required level. When I had my train driver medical I...

TPE - Trainee Driver - York & Manchester Piccadilly (05/08/23)

I'd be amazed if you don't get free train travel to get you to and from wherever the training is.........?

TPE - Trainee Driver - York & Manchester Piccadilly (05/08/23)

That's fantastic that it's stayed the same - gotta make TPE the most attractive TOC to start out with at the very least!! I'm not aware of any other TOC which puts you on top whack so soon after starting (in the North anyway.......)

TPE - Trainee Driver - York & Manchester Piccadilly (05/08/23)

I'd be interested to see how long they string out the training salary now TPE are part of DOHL.......?? A fantastic opportunity nonetheless!!

    Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Manchester/Liverpool/Hull (2/6/2023)

East and West are on different terms and conditions - biggest difference being that Sundays are outside the working week on the West.......

    Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Manchester/Liverpool/Hull (2/6/2023)

A word or warning to anyone applying for a position with Northern - if you are waiting to hear if you're through to interview etc then you need to be checking the online portal you submitted your application through (twice daily really). Do not rely on an invite coming through to your emails...

    Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Manchester/Liverpool/Hull (2/6/2023)

If you search on here or go onto the OPC website there is a list of who is standard and who is enhanced (more are enhanced than standard these days I think and one TOC's enhanced can be different to another's) I think I had about a 5 or 6 month wait after applying before getting an invite to...

    Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Manchester/Liverpool/Hull (2/6/2023)

Going off memory: Bourdon TRP 1 and 2 Tea Occ VSE (is this the Vienna?) ATAVT (the flashing grey square) Two handed co-ordination MMI (Multimodal interview) They don't do the M7sjt and I don't really know what the CBI is I'm afraid (possibly a variation on the MMI?) Interestingly they don't...

    Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Manchester/Liverpool/Hull (2/6/2023)

Am pretty sure the 6 month rule is set by the OPC. I know a lot of places run the assessments in house (Northern being one of them!) but I'd have thought the 6 month rule would apply irrespective of it being a different TOC. I was also under the impression that the 6 month period was from the...
