As daft as it is to have any sort of attachment to them, they've worked the area for 40 years, and to be fair, they have stood the test of time very well. Other than on warm days when you notice the lack of air conditioning, they do an exceptional job for their age. They carry large volumes of passengers, have reasonable acceleration and solid reliability for the short distance runs they operate. They have also had satisfactory PRM modifications fitted bringing them up to the standard of modern commuter stock. It's only the lack of A/C that lets them down. I would argue that while 315 seats aren't perfect, they are better than those on the Mk3 EMUs that succeeded them and indeed more comfortable than the solid seating used on their replacements. In winter I'm still quite content to use 315s, now that the novelty of using 345s has somewhat worn off. TfL have put the money in to look after them and thus they really don't feel like they're falling apart like some other newer classes of train do. It feels like they'd easily last another decade if they had to. There are actually very few classes of EMU that could be said about so far.
very good synopsis.

808 + 822’s final journey reached its conclusion half an hour ago. They’re now at Booth’s for their date with the cutting gang

From Booth's to Booths?

(For those who aren't familiar- Booths is a chain of supermarkets in the north west)

No 315s out on TfL at the weekend, solidly 345 (unless there is a riot!). If one does slip out it is replaced with a 345 ASAP.

On weekdays 2 pairs of 315s work the 'off-peak' service (today there were three). The peak sees 6 pairs work (as per the diagrams) in/out of Liverpool Street.

On London Overground, two pairs also work 'off-peak' with another set doing am peak finishing with the 0927 from Chingford to Liverpool Street. . With the 'normal' Mon-Fri timetable reinstated, there may be some extras for some of the peak trains (1652 & 1722 LST to Cheshunt & return).

Weekends is a bit haphazard due to engineering work, though quite often it has been 4/2 in favour of 315s or 3/3. However with new 710s piling in by the day, things could change. Note up till now, service has only been 50% of the COVID timetable (hourly Enfield/Cheshunt & half-hourly Chingford). Not sure what is happening from this weekend though as LO poster gave no information.

Hope this helps.

Paul.

Guaranteed chance of 315s planned on both routes at the weekend, they don't have a choice. Romford drivers don't sign 710s and there aren't enough Chingford drivers/units to cover all the Southburys yet.

Four sets on Southburys today:
807/810, 824/833, 830/859, 802/811

Elizabeth line drivers based at Ilford do the Romford to Upminster branch and don’t sign 710’s.

on a side note as two 345’s (020+029) transferred to old oak depot this week there are only 16 345’s on the east side for 16 diagrams. As far as i know there are no plans in place as yet to bring any back from the west side. So there is an increased chance of some more 315 off peak running.

315852 is a long time unit out of use so there are only 19 315’s left on theElizabeth line services

The current 315 status on the Elizabeth line.

818/819/820/826/829/834/837/838/839/843/844/847/848/849/851/853/854/856/857 are the units still in service

I first worked on them in July 1982 till 1989... but really lost touch withtravelling on them at Liverpool Street about ten years ago..

Thanks to those predictions I was able to sample 315s on Romford - Upminster and also on the Enfield route, where they seem to now be operating a few of the services. Glad I did, probably will be my last trips on them.

These are the first trains I remember being new (can remember going on a peak hour 306 from Rayleigh with my dad as a boy) so seeing them scrapped makes me feel old!

I was in London for a day trip on Tuesday and I nearly saw no 315s at all, only went past one LO pair on my way to Walthamstow Central on one of their modern replacements. It would also appear that LO have now withdrawn all their 317s though that’s according to the recent issue of Today’s Railways UK

In London today I only saw 710s on the LO side apart from the 315 working Emerson Park. With the 745s in the StanEx and Norwich platforms, 379 to Hertford East, 710s on the LO and a full complement of 345s on the east side, Liverpool Street looked very different to how it did a couple of years ago when I was a daily commuter (Ignoring all the covid changes of course).

the only 710 to operate at emerson park has been the test unit....... into the last 4 weeks of class 315 operation across the LO network.

315811/833 heading for northampton today

units left on LO services: 315801/2/5/7/10/15/24/30 and 59 total 9 in service.

The Northampton move today looks to have been cancelled. Not sure on the reason

Hasnt been a 317 on LO for nearly 7 months. So very correct.
