Is 321321 still active, obviously a renatus machine but it will still go soon.

Thanks, Nat

I'm intrigued by the large amount of second batch 321/3s (347-366) which have gone for dismantling compared to much the noticeably smaller numbers of first batch (401-430) and second batch (431-448) 321/4s which have also met their doom. Is it just a complete coincidence or is there actually a specific reason behind it?

I expect 321301-330 are the main candidates for Class 600 donor units.

Am, I right in thinking the 321/4s are the ones with unit de-select? This may make them more flexible if GA want to continue to operate 12-car 321 formations, so preferable to keep over the non-PRM half of the 321/3 fleet.

Yes that makes a lot of sense.

What do you mean by unit deselect?

321s do not have selective door operating, but some units (I believe only the /4s) were fitted with a means of locking out one whole unit. This is necessary for when 12-car formations run to Braintree (as they do when interworking with Southend) as 12 cars will not fit in the platforms on that branch. Thus, for 12-car peak-time diagrams that include Braintree, at least some of the units in the formation need to be 321/4s. They will therefore be more useful to have around than 321/3s.

It’s a limited form of Selective Door Opening that only allows a complete unit to be “de-selected” (ie doors on that unit don’t open).

You think? I thought the Class 321 was your favourite train in the entire galaxy? ;)

Seriously though, the oldest 321/4s are only a year newer than the oldest 321/3s, so I'm not really sure that's going to make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

It is :D. I guess it wouldn't but it could be a possibility why less /4's are being withdrawn. To be honest, I prefer the /4's over the /3's

Thanks I still need 321321 for sight. Also is 321445 still active or in warm store?
I have not seen 321445 anywhere at all for the last month or two, so I suspect it is either stored or warm stored.

The /4s will have to go before the Renatus /3s though, because the Renatus and ex-Northern fleet are the only bins that can stay on beyond May.

How many unrefurbished (not Renatus) 321s does Greater Anglia currently have left in service at the moment please?

If it's only non-Renatus then also don't forget that would include 901, 902, 903 and the five 322s. Alright, they aren't 321s, but functionally they may as well be.

I agree with the list for withdrawals, but don't have scrapyard destinations for: 321350, 321351, 321364, 321425, 72017 and 63104.

My notes say that 364 and 425 are still at Parkeston Quay.

However, it is highly possible that I have missed some scrap moves - can anyone help fill the gaps?

Thanks

421 was out last Friday just gone attached to 322482. 720s had a poor day back end off last week due to new trains not liking the sudden change in temperature from very cold to very warm.
421 was active even rode it to colchester before doubling back to shenfield to ride a extra afternoon unexpected ride on a pair off 315 due to 345 failure
