The list is kindly compiled by one of our volunteers whenever they have time and I normally upload it within a few hours of the update landing! It's normally updated every 1-2 months and things aren't changing that quickly nowadays!

Just a suggestion, but would it be possible to add details of those deregistered / scrapped to that list, together with location (or location / date of scrapping if they no longer exist)?

Not a significant number at the moment, but will grow in due course!

43173 scrapped Serco Shoeburyness Works September 2003
43011 scrapped Crewe Works June 2002
43019 scrapped SIMS Beeston July 2005
43140 scrapped JR Adams Glasgow May 2021
Note that SIMS has only disposed of one power car to date... this is sure to change soon.

Cheers - would be useful if these were added to the 125 group list, along with 43300 (presumably not on there due to being deregistered, although it still exists).

p.s., also, for completeness:

43001 (41002) scrapped Booths, Rotherham Decemeber 1990

Surprised how quick 019 and 140 have been disposed of considering 011 languished at Crewe for 3 years after its altercation with 165119 while 173 survived for 6 years following its involvement at Southall.

Interesting to note 018 the survivor from Ladbroke Grove is preserved at Crewe

Forgive my ignorance but are the Long Marston power cars being stored there for potential re-use in the future?

Likewise are they visible from roads/footpaths currently? I don’t know the site but assume it’s very secure. Many thanks

Yes it is.
Security and part off an old mod secure airfield.
Very close to my home.

If you can’t see them from the public road along the north perimeter, you won’t see them at all.

Tangential - but are the Crewe Heritage Centre in line for some more ex-HST stock? Powercars or coaches? Cryptic tweets about March 1978 and #itscominghome on Intercity 125 yellow and blue...

43081 is going to be moving to Crewe Heritage centre which will be there second power car. 43081 was the 8000th loco built at Crewe so has a special place in railway history around Crewe at least.

43081 has passed into preservation joining 43018 at Crewe Heritage Centre. It is on the cover of the September Rail Express which has been posted on the UK HST group on Facebook.

There’s a very proportion of the preserved HSTs that are EMT/EMR, with four examples, versus three FGW/GWR and one VTEC (which also spent time on EMR).

Are there any other groups/railways with public plans to preserve power cars?

4 VP185 HSTs compared to 4 MTU HSTs.....

Mind at least 3 are static displays and may never work again, the 2 at Crewe and one at Margate. I suspect the HST group having VP185s might make it easier for them to drop Valentas in but I think it was more down to the keenness of EMT and porterbrook after the NRM spat their dummy out over 41001

VP to Valenta conversion - which has been done before - is easier than MTU to Valenta.

Not really anything to do with EMT. Discussions with Porterbrook about power cars had been going on well before 41001 was recalled by the NRM. Indeed, the relationship between 125 Group and Porterbrook has been built over many, many years.

That is interesting "43096". Can you quote examples please ? I was under the impression that once a Valenta was replaced by a VP185, there was no going back to Valenta, although obviously it was and is technically possible..

Thanks

It's only been done once: 43167 was converted to VP185 (from Mirrlees MB190) in 1995/96, and was then converted back to a Valenta in August 2001. This was because it was the only GNER power car with a VP185, so it made sense to standardise the fleet as all Valenta. The surplus VP185 was fitted into FGW's 43165.
