I suppose the only viable alternative would be extending some services beyond Gospel Oak to Willesden Jn or beyond? Certainly in the near future, service frequency could do with improving too. It won't be long til the four-car electrics (when finally introduced) are packed to the rafters too!

That was suggested by the line's user group and TfL said the same line about training. The line has been wired up since mid Jan, we could've had plenty of EMU stopgap measures for the time being.

The line may have been wired up but apparently it is still not finished and signed off for electric traction (source - latest news from line user group). I have to say I am surprised about that. I wonder if NR are being more relaxed about it because there are no electric trains to actually use it so there's no immediate pressure on them. I am waiting for the "you should have listened to us and used 315s" reply from the line user group. Given where are now at and facing more delays with the 710s it might actually have been a good idea but hindsight is marvellous!!! I doubt that Arriva or TfL had sufficient spare cash to have funded the use of the 315s anyway so perhaps it's all a bit academic.

There also seems to be (signalling excepted ) no reason why the 30mph section between South Tottenham and Upper Holloway cannot be upgraded to 45mph like most of the eastern section. And i still don't see why a short section of 20mph speed limit applies over a viaduct around the lea valley reservoirs - which has completely been rebuilt and new track laid!

I agree. I still don't understand why, months on, the speed restriction here has not been lifted. As you say there has been years of work to replace / strengthen / refurbish the worn out old bridges so why trains still have to crawl I know not. It's even more galling as that's the point where I want trains to hurry up if I am facing a short connecton to a bus at Blackhorse Rd! Trying to do a mad dash from train door to bus stop in under 2 mins is a bit much these days. ;)

315s would be of absolutely no use even if the wires were ready as whatever could be used has to be dual voltage and DOO camera fitted for starters. Many EMU schemes were developed, none were viable.

Why would they need to be dual voltage to run on the Goblin?

IIRC various TfL reports have said that regularly extending westward beyond Gospel Oak isn’t possible without removing existing NLL services from the timetable. In any case every time they find some track space they seem to stick extra Stratford trains in - they are now at 8 tph all day, which was thought to be impossible not that long ago...

Hi all, apologies if there's already a thread on this unit but I couldn't seem to find any.

With a lot of new units being built over the next few years, I find it remarkable how quiet the 710s progress is, considering they're meant to be in service in little over a year.

Does anyone have any info on when the first signs of the first unit are likely to show up?

Hi! As a matter of fact, I have just emailed the director of the London underground network operations and he said he should be able to get back to me as soon as possible. When he gives me a response, I will let you know!

I'm not sure why you think London Underground would either know or care when the Class 710s are being delivered?

TBH even though it probably has little to do with them I wouldn't be surprised if senior LU people were in the know about those things.

A London Overound driver posted this on another forum:

23 units are currently built and will remain in Derby for the foreseeable future with a slowdown in production to avoid stabling issues

22nd Oct is now the new date being talked about for passenger service on the Gobs

Will they enter service on any of the other Overground routes first?
I wouldn't think so, they are needed on the Goblin to release the 172s to the west midlands, whereas the West Anglia lines stock will be going for scrap/storage, and they are only providing additional services on the WLL/NLL, so Goblin is the priority

I was told in an earlier post that the first one would enter service at the end of August but who knows.

So the trains are built and the infrastructure is in place subject to staff training why are the 710s not in service?
The infrastructure isnt ready either, its way off. See the lack of WA trains able to operate via South Tottenham and thats the bit that used to have wires!!

Should find out pretty soon if Abellio are more interested in a nice cheque then the planned strengthening of Snow Hill diagrams from September!

If that is the case it's time to kick some backsides me thinks.

Yup it's my understanding that the GA 720s are riding on the back of this software too so they depend on this being sorted.

It's apparently a new Aventra TCMS software whereas the one on the 345s are based on that of the Electrostar.

Nope all Aventras use the same software. It’s a new product so you get teething issues with it. Seems to be getting quite stable on the 345’s.

That's a thought – are the PIS on the 710s the same as the 345s? That'd be quite nice.

Strangley enough we will be using a slightly darker moquette than the 378s.

As of today all west anglia stations now have 710 stop boards and balaise beacons for the CSDE/SDO.

Very strange that they are using East London Line destinations on the internal renderings when the Class 710 won’t be used on the ELL.

Nicer interiors than the slightly compromised 378s. Bigger windows and fewer intrusions to bang your head on!

An Elizabeth line desination too...I wonder what links a 710 to that?

We (Drivers) Have received our first familiarization material on the 710s regarding driving, TCMs usage and an opportunity to drive the simulators...A course length has been agreed also. Here are some shots of the interior (renders) from the material. Strangley enough we will be using a slightly darker moquette than the 378s. Happy to answer any questions (tones of material)

Looks like these trains have live route maps above the doors?
