Who owns that one?
I didn't get a close look at it, one of the staff with it was wearing a "A2B Truro" branded top. The Dart was red (ex London) and in single door configuration. Other than A2B Truro I am thinking maybe Royal Buses?

A Flickr search shows it red with Go Ahead and then Pheonix Coaches (North East). It then got painted white at some point and was with M Travel of Longsight near Stockport.

Would GWR contract Royal Buses?!

I believe it's all done through First Travel Solutions. For short notice requirements they get what they can depending on availability of vehicles and staff. If a train requires rail replacement at for example 2pm it's more difficult to arrange due to school/college requirements that the bus operator already has. So it may not be easy to get a certain type of vehicle from certain operators at certain times.

Anyway I guess you know all that anyway.

I think that’s about right.
First Travel Solutions has a large panel of operators they use on their systems.

The fairly long-established free service from Penzance Tesco's round the town during offpeak hours, run in recent years by Williams of Camborne with an ageing step-entrance midibus, was discontinued from 4th July.

That's a shame. It always seemed well used. I can't imagine all the elderly people that used it are now shopping online.

It's a UK wide move - Tesco are pulling them across the country. Think Asda have been doing much the same.
I think Asda have done so except some very rural locations (and tremough university campus free bus still runs to penryn Asda !)
when nearly all the passengers using them are concession pass holders, and the free service more or less duplicates a service bus which also serves the supermarkets it isn’t a good value service to the shareholders. why pay to duplicate something which already exists and would also be free to the customers using it

Specifically at Penzance using normal bus services requires crossing busy and dangerous roads. Probably best for the users to migrate to Sainsbury's where it's much more bus friendly.

Also, with the A17 withdrawal in its old form, the cross-Penzance regular alternative bus service no longer exists, unless you count TfC's 16/A routes which remain untimetabled to the public in Penzance west of the bus station!

I know they do, but the general public won't. This is a serious question, as someone who occasionally used to travel through from west of the bus station to points further east and who is very unsteady on his feet, even with a stick. Would I be allowed to stay on the bus at the bus station, without dissent from the driver? I have an old person's pass, and hate avoidable arguments. I'm quite happy to have my pass scanned a second time if that's part of the deal.

Following on from a note on the First South West thread, is W805PAE (ex First B7TL 32005) still with Rosevidney?

It says in the bus timetable that most 17's continue through Penzance town centre - please check with driver, so shouldn't be an issue.

DVLA records show it taxed with last change of ownership in 2017.

Is it normal for vehicles in Plymouth Citybus livery to operating TfC services deep into Cornwall? (rather a than cross boundary services from Plymouth)

I noticed a few in said livery running around Newquay today

Yes they get everywhere! I have seen them in West Cornwall on a fairly regular basis. Some of the 65 registration E200’s and other types have been repainted with Transport for Cornwall ( TfC) branding though, so less regular than it was.
