EMR class 156s for Northern

I admit to having lost the plot a bit on the class 156 movements from EMR to Northern.

Am I right in saying that 6 units are not moving to Northern, but are in store now (having finished at EMR)?

I think these are:

• 407/907 at Long Marston
• 470, 473, 497 and 498 at Barrow Hill
• 410 not sure of location

Can anyone confirm these six units and their locations?

156410 went Etches Park to Heaton in late May, and is scheduled for repaint at Crewe in mid-June after 156406 comes out. Not seen any reports on any movement since its move to Heaton, and isn't in public service with Northern.
AFAIK you are correct on the other 5 units in terms of painted numbers, although with regards to 156470/3/97/98 are they at Barrow Hill or Ely? From memory not fitted with WSP but do they remain an option for Northern with 150137/8/41 quoted as going to Bletchley shortly? (and to complete on 156's 156478 remains off-lease at Kilmarnock)

No, they're owned by Angel Trains not Porterbrook and aside from nit having WSP are badly corroded. Originally, there were meant to be 5 156s (156405/406/408/410/11) that weren't going to Northern. However, 156411 was the replacement for 156907 and Northern took up the option for the additional 4 units (405/406/408/410) which are the replacements for the 3 150s that are moving to L&NWR soon.

No, they're owned by Angel Trains not Porterbrook and aside from nit having WSP are badly corroded. Originally, there were meant to be 5 156s (156405/406/408/410/11) that weren't going to Northern. However, 156411 was the replacement for 156907 and Northern took up the option for the additional 4 units (405/406/408/410) which are the replacements for the 3 150s that are moving to L&NWR soon.

156405 is at Crewe for repaint. 156410 will be the next unit, once it has had it's conversion exams completed at Heaton.
156406 is currently at Newton Heath having it's conversion exam now that it's back from repaint.

The 4 156's listed (5, 6, 8 & 10) are not replacement units for the 3 x 150/1's that are due to go to LMR. They are additional units for the Northumberland line when that opens which will assist in releasing the current ATL 158's from their diagrams to cover this new line.

I'm not too familiar with the EMR 156s but I noticed a Northern painted 156 with what looked like SWT-like red seat covers. I'm guessing it's one of these that has moved?

Almost certainly, the northern ones were blue. The ex-stagecoach ones were red. The Ones that came from Anglia are different again (grey if I recall) and falling to bits.

Thanks. Never had the pleasure of travelling in a Northern 156, but I do like the 158s and 170s they've refurbished. Hope they get tarted up to the same standard.

Two ex EMR 156s were at Heaton. Think 405 went to Crewe for painting a few weeks ago and is now at NH in Northern livery. The other was 410 which went to Crewe Saturday gone for painting. On arrival it then went to NH around an hour later for whatever reason?

Yeah 405 was out and about yesterday on Blackburn - Rainford etc, seems to be just on NH today along with 410 which doesn't seem to have moved again since it randomly came straight back from Crewe at the weekend

Think 408 is the only one. However 410 is on NH. Whether it comes in to service or goes back to Crewe for painting is unclear.
