Out of interest I went for a look over at the gov website regarding route registration. There were two new registration for first seen below in the picture. Link to the site also supplied.

It's the top running board (which normally belongs to the D5) and is used as the running board of choice when transferring buses between depots.

Correct, or any other movement that doesn’t have a running board on the ticket machine, where the driver does an electronic Pre use vehicle check

Correct - as @richw described it, it's almost the default option for drivers where a running board isn't otherwise specified, such as shuttling of vehicles etc.

Marc Morgan Huws commented on his Twitter post regarding 36100 a while back saying it won’t be painted this season as it needs to be on the road. Understandable really as it is the spare vehicle for the Exmoor Coaster.
