Darlington 4 v Scunthorpe 0 - WOW. Performance of the season. WOW.

I want to know what Darlington FC have started putting in their tea!
what ever it is i hope we have enough left for the rest of the season! We were gone 3 weeks ago. 4 wins in a row. Beat the team second in the league 4-0 ( they thrashed us at their place earlier in the season) Sadly result have gone against us so we remain in the bottom 4 but now only 3 points of 17th! Incredible turn around. Amazing what a proper manager can do.

Spennymoor next. Always tough going there and playing their champions league world cup final but we have a chance of staying up

Another defeat for Stoke. Seven losses in nine games. According to the match report Stoke played very well in the 2nd half, but unless you equal or score more than the opposition a defeat is still a defeat.

Harry's chance of actually winning a trophy is still alive. He scored twice as Bayern Munich beat Lazio 3-0 on the night 3-1 on aggregate. In the other game PSG beat Real Sociedad 2-1 on the night, 4-1 on aggregate. They are now going into the Quarter/ Semi Finals draws along with the likes of Man City on Friday week.

I was at the game, and can confirm Stoke played pretty well in the second half (after the time-wasting stopped). I do think we had the chances to make the game more comfortable, but failed to take them. Ultimately, it didn’t matter as we ground out a win with a weakened team, but if that helps us get 3pts on Friday against Wednesday with a stronger team, it will be viewed as great strategic thinking. A win is a win, and is especially valuable as we are on a tough run of games.

This season may well cause me to lose my hair... the bottom half of the Championship is tighter than a Yorkshireman's wallet. The above result went our way, but Sheffield Wednesday beat Plymouth in a game that I'd rather have ended in a draw. Birmingham managed a draw with in-form Hull, and Blackburn and Millwall also shared a point apiece. Tomorrow (technically today now) Huddersfield go to Cardiff, and a win would see us leap from 21st to 16th place. Currently only two points separate Plymouth in 16th from Sheffield Wednesday in 23rd. It's looking like 50 points will be needed for survival, which is ridiculous really...

Not with Man City, they haven't qualified for the QF, yet!

I thought BM played well in general, Lazio were in the game for 20/25 but then BM started to get hold of things and as so often happens the 1st goal changed the game and BM had the bonus of another 1 right on HT.

Not sure which game Ferdinand watched when he said HK was not really involved in the game apart from his 2 goals! He was excellent, dropping and linking with Müller and Musiala, playing in Sane and being a general focal point for BM attacks.

I suppose it all now depends on the draw. I would expect BM to get past PSG and the winners of BVB/ PSV then it depends on how things go in the 2nd legs of the other games.

I would imagine Madrid, Man City, Barca and probably Arsenal will get through.
I am 50/50 on Atleti/Inter, Inter are flying in Serie A but Atleti are very strong at home.
I would put BM above Barcelona, Madrid and City would be too strong for BM, the others 50/50.

Another somewhat humorous gem from Stoke manager Steven Schumacher. From BBC Radio Stoke:

"I think the players deserved something from the game. If there's ever a way to lose a game of football, that was probably it.”

A match in the Highland League tonight between bottom club Strathspey Thistle (W1 D1 L22..GD-73) at home to Brora Rangers (W12 D7 L3 GD +43)

Strathspey Thistle have taken over the title of "oh no, not another big defeat" from Fort Willam, who now play in a different league.

So there is a team having a worse season than Sheffield United.
Strathspey should nevertheless be safe from relegation from the Highland League, unless Lochee United, the only SFA licensed club eligible for promotion who are still in contention in a feeder league below, do win the (Scottish) Midlands Football League. The Blue Bells are currently 14 points adrift of top spot with 11 fixtures left

And even then they would have to win a play-off over two legs. Which they might not if they don’t want promotion.

Apparently leading to an unexpected boost to the crowd at AFC Totton as Preston fans sought out some football to watch.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Fulham

Two second half goals, the first from Rayan Ait-Nouri and the other being an Own Goal puts Gary O’Neil’s Barmy Army back into 8th and matches our points total of 2022/2023 with 10 League games left.

Just an FA Cup Quarter-Final v Coventry City next week!

Northern Premier League...Premier Division

Workington 0 ... Hyde United 1

Playing Workington on their own pitch is one of what seems like a minor war of attrition and their defense don't give much away and it was only just before half-time that Hyde took the lead and then the second half was goalless. This result sees Hyde still in second place in the league.

FC Halifax Town 2-1 Borehamwood

A just about deserved win against a team designed to frustrate, niggle and spoil for 90+ minutes. Amazing what a difference it makes having a player (Flo Hoti) in the team who can pass and create.

Unfortunately the combination of a wet winter and the start of the rugby season has wrecked the pitch

Crystal Palace 1 Luton Town 1
Some way short of being a classic match, it looked like a defensive error that gifted Palace the opportunity for their goal was going to be the deciding factor, possibly for our entire season. But then, in the seventh of six added minutes, a lovely inswinging cross by Andros Townsend skimmed Cauley Woodrow's head and beat the keeper. It was only a point but enough to reinvigorate the hope that had been dying a few minutes earlier. We're not out of it yet!

Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City today, Arsenal the beneficiaries, receiving two points by a gift donation, Arsenal top of the league, may well wrest the Championship

It's a bit rich for Watford to call someone an interim head coach, given the lack of permanence that goes with the job anyway.

Ismael had been in the post since the start of the season... Birmingham, Huddersfield and Sunderland have each changed managers twice this season and Huddersfield did the same last season as well. The "Watford change their manager all the time" thing is a bit of a dead meme.

In Serie A in Italy Lecce have sacked manager Roberto D’Averzza, this coming after he head butted Verona striker Thomas Henry in a match at the weekend.

Mainz midfielder Joshua Guilavogi has thanked the referee in the match against Bayern Munich after he collided with his teammate, fell to the ground & was unconscious after swallowing his tongue. The referee put the player in the recovery position & pulled his tongue out from his throat.

Rafa Benitez has been sacked by Celta Vigo & Maurizio Sarri has resigned as manager of Lazio.
