My advice is the same as what others have suggested in this thread. Do the test in a quiet room, free from any distractions. Do it when you've had a good nights sleep and if you make a mistake try not to get thrown off track(excuse the pun!)

I just did my VSE test and SJT. I answered 21 out of the 25 for SJT, really disappointed. The VSE test especially part three was really difficult. However I felt I performed better on the VSE tests. Fingers crossed and all the best to everyone else completing the application over the next few days.

How many would you say you got wrong on the VSE section? I did all part 1 correct, coupe wrong on part 2, and then maybe

Blimey, just completed the actual tests...

That SJT was horrible, so many of the answers were basically the same just worded slightly differently!!

As for the VSE, I didn't do great sadly.

Part 1 was nice
Part 2 I stupidly got 4-5 wrong
Part 3 I actually did better than part 2, think I got 2-3 wrong

So not holding out a lot of hope there!




The real one is not the same as the practice ones they tell you to print out, those were just to give you a rough idea of the type of thing the tests do. You get to practise first when you do the real thing, and you can repeat the practice if you like, so my advice would be to just get on and do it. Make sure it's quiet and there are no distractions!

I really don't think that's bad at all you know, I would hope that to be a pass, I imagine I did very similar except I had more mistakes in part 3 and less in part 2, I am hoping I got all part 1 of the VSE correct, and all of the primary side correct in part 3 except I am sure I missed the first two train error as just got a glimpse in my peripheral view of it fading - not sure how the SJTs went as some of the questions were ambiguous and the answers open to interpretation. Hopefully we did enough to get us to the assessment centres!

Applied 30th July, and got the invitation for the SJT/VSE on 2nd August

I applied Sunday morning, and received my email 20 minutes ago. Now I just need to find time to do it..

Im currently sitting in a talent pool with GTR and was wondering if I was to take the SJT and VSE again for freightliner and fail if this would affect my position with GTR?

Just submitted for Peterborough. Some freightliner history questions to give people a heads up. My first time applying so not expecting to much. Reading the whole recruitment process it gives no reference to CV upload. Does anyone know why this might be?

Hey Rachael I passed my assessments with GN last year, I have to do the VSE and SJT now too, these are only additional tests and won't affect the main ones we have already done with GTR

I’ve heard a couple of people say that deadline for the SJT and VSE is on Friday at 1700hrs? Mine closes on 9th at 1700hrs? Is this just different to you guys or are you mistaken? Wouldn’t want anybody to kiss the deadline so just making sure

It depends when you got sent the test.

I feel rather silly now, that stands to reason haha. I guess I got in to the mindset that all the people in this thread applied at the same time ish (which they did when I started posting in it )

One final question if anyone can answer - once you open the test page to do the real practices, is that you committed to sitting the tests in that actual session, or can you just do the practise then walk away and come back and do the test another day. Reason being I'm keen to do the practise but don't have the time available to do the actual tests until tomorrow..Many thanks anyone who can answer

Eastleigh. Gonna do the tests tomorrow evening I think. I’ve practiced, but I think (from past experience with these sorts of tests) that they’re not something one can practise for really.....’have an awareness of’ is a better way of thinking about them i think. For example, I found I was making silly mistakes in the practise material because I didn’t fully understand the methods in the VSE to start with. Good luck!

GTR aren't enhanced tests so you will need to sit an assessment with freightliner

Oh , well when I did my second day at the opc they said gtr were enhanced , in fact one of the highest of the toc's.
