Wow lucky guess...

your turn @Jimbob52
Indeed! Perhaps it’s time to move on from population and try something lighter.

Some songs had quite inventive rhymes. Other had dreadfully contrived words. Here are some of my favourites, a mixture of good and bad.

Can you supply the next lines to make the rhyme, and give the title of the song?

1. I close my eyes for a second and pretend it's me you want
2. Every day, it's a-gettin' closer
3.I loved you then as I love you still
4.The bottle stands forlorn
5.I get the shivers I don't want to see a ghost, it's a sight that I fear most
6.Waiting to keep the appointment she made
7.Deep down in her pockets she finds 50p
8.She gave birth to a daughter
9.Came the telegram
10.The city's clamour can never spoil

For a bonus, can you name the songs which included the following?

‘you’re obsolete’
‘centrifugal motion’
‘invest a dime’

3 is A New England by Kirsty MacColl (but written by Billy Bragg I think). The next line is “I put you on a pedestal, you put me on the pill” or words to that effect

Here goes........

1 - The Searchers - When you walk in the room - next line Meanwhile I try to act so nonchalant.

4 - Hermans Hermits - No milk today - next line A symbol of the dawn.

5 - Des'ree - Life - next line Its the sight I fear the most.

6 - Beatles - Shes leaving home - next line Meeting a man from the Motortrade.

7 - Boomtown Rats - Rat Trap - next line Hey is that anyway for a young girl to be.

10 - Ella Fitzgerald - Manhattan - next line The dreams of a boy and girl.

Centrifugal motion is This Kiss by Faith Hill.

Sorry dont know the other two.

Very impressive!

To fill in the gaps,

- In no. 5 the line 'it's a sight that I fear most' was in the question; the next line is 'I'd rather have a piece of toast'.
- no. 9 is from "I'm Living in Shame' (Diana Ross and The Supremes). The line is 'Mamma passed away making homemade jam'.
- 'Obsolete' is in 'Out of Time' (Chris Farlowe') 'You're obsolete, my baby'
- 'Invest a dime' is in 'Happy Together' (The Turtles) 'If I should call you up, invest a dime'

I declare 444045 the clear winner. Unfortunately, gold discs are currently out of stock owing to the pandemic. Instead, I pass the floor to 444045.

So we have correct answers for 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10, yes?

Leaving 4, 6, 8 and 9 still to go.

I've had to look this up, so don't count these answers:

Gabrielle Drake was in Crossroads and UFO.
Susan Howard was in Dallas and Petrocelli.

Allows the quiz to move forward, I suppose. Often an obscure answer or two if a multi-part question is asked. :)

You are correct - I was expecting Gabrielle Drake to go early as she has a following by members of the forum from a previous quiz.

All the answers are in now and we have a three way tie between

@Spamcan81 , @perryman and @EbbwJunction1 with 2 correct answers each,

therefore a tie break question is required.

How many episodes of Heartbeat were made please ?

- nearest asks the next question between the three of you.

Thanks, but I don't really think that my answers should be considered. They were as a result of some research, which wasn't even based on a hunch which I had to check. So, I'll withdraw here and let the others have a run at it.
