How so? The timetable would have to be recast anyway.Having Lumo bid for those theoretical non-existent paths would certainly put paid to any remaining hopes of a Winchburgh station

Cleared out at Newcastle? Are you sure on a Sunday? Most LNER trains are full all day.I read somewhere a few weeks ago that if their plan is approved, Luno would be going into Queen Street? I think this would make a lot of sense!
I also observed while travelling First Class yesterday from Dundee to London, a lot of people got on at Edinburgh but then it mostly cleared out at Newcastle! Not many people were left travelling onto London. Is there a significant flow between Edinburgh and Newcastle or would many of the people likely have come from connecting services i.e. from Glasgow? This would siggest that Lumo would cater for this flow if it is mostly from Newcastle northwards.
Was there some specific event on in Newcastle? It's been a while since I travelled down to London on a Sunday but the trains always used to be quite busy all the way.I also observed while travelling First Class yesterday from Dundee to London, a lot of people got on at Edinburgh but then it mostly cleared out at Newcastle! Not many people were left travelling onto London.
I'd say that's pretty unusual. There certainly is some traffic from Edinburgh to Newcastle, and from points north to Newcastle on the trains which go further afield, but it's normally a small fraction of the people travelling from Edinburgh, and in general it's replaced by additional people getting on at Newcastle.I read somewhere a few weeks ago that if their plan is approved, Luno would be going into Queen Street? I think this would make a lot of sense!

It took me a moment to parse that as a preference for a through train rather than changing at Edinburgh, since that through train also passes through Edinburgh.I know that for me personally when I go Glasgow as often as I do I would much prefer a Newcastle to Glasgow QS train rather than Newcastle - Edinburgh - Glasgow QS. Lumo will definitely gain some regular travellers from me and my family.
My apologies I will edit the original post for more clarity. It took me a moment to parse that as a preference for a through train rather than changing at Edinburgh, since that through train also passes through Edinburgh.
I thought that one of the things that makes Lumo different from other long-distance operators is specifically that they are all standard-class.If they did this with a First Class offering I would definitely try Lumo.
I take it Lumo will be ordering new trains if their application os successful for the Rochdale service? Could they increase their London-Edinburgh-Glasgow service to say two-hourly? If they did this with a First Class offering I would definitely try Lumo. Until their level of service can compete with LNER, I will most likely stick with them.
Different being less valuable as I want to pay for a service I enjoy, if it’s not about the cheapest ticket why would I choose Lumo over the fantastic LNER?I thought that one of the things that makes Lumo different from other long-distance operators is specifically that they are all standard-class.
How do they expect to run the Rochdale and Glasgow service then? I guess the Glasgows could run as extensions maybe a slight rejig of paths but the Rochdale would need new stock.Little to no chance of either.
You don't choose them. Thousands of other people do because they value a cheaper fare over some moderately more comfortable seats for a lot more money.Different being less valuable as I want to pay for a service I enjoy, if it’s not about the cheapest ticket why would I choose Lumo over the fantastic LNER
But are you Lumo’s target market?Different being less valuable as I want to pay for a service I enjoy, if it’s not about the cheapest ticket why would I choose Lumo over the fantastic LNER?

Probably not! But if the quality competed with LNER I would certainly be tempted to try. Or even if the meal option similar to LNER was available in Lumo standard again I would be tempted. Although I do think the first class seats on an Azuma Will beat the comfort of Lumo as well. I think the easy answer is Lumo probably isn’t for me, these being the reasons why I am put off defecting from the fantastic first class offering on LNER.But are you Lumo’s target market?
The whole idea of it is choice. You choose which suits you best.
If you want first class with at seat meal service you choose LNER.
If you want a low price and don’t care about a buffet or meal then you choose Lumo.
The point that you seem to be missing is that Lumo isn't trying to be another LNER. They've said themselves that they aren't competing again LNER, they're trying to win customers from EasyJet, et al.But if the quality competed with LNER I would certainly be tempted to try. Or even if the meal option similar to LNER was available in Lumo standard again I would be tempted.
So you’ve never tried Lumo? You maybe surprised if you try!Probably not! But if the quality competed with LNER I would certainly be tempted to try. So regarding extra rolling stock for Lumos Rochdale service and Hall trains Sheffield service, I’m guessing they are just waiting for the go-ahead then will immediately order more new 803 and bi modes respectively? There must be a provisional order in place?
I havent tried Lumo, I would like to one day but I know I really like LNER so it’s one of those things do you risk it And try something new which you might not like or stick to something that you know you will like?So you’ve never tried Lumo? You maybe surprised if you try!
Lumo seating on my Opinion (from actually trying it) is better and more comfortable than LNER first class and standard seating.I havent tried Lumo, I would like to one day but I know I really like LNER so it’s one of those things do you risk it And try something new which you might not like or stick to something that you know you will like?
Fair enough, I should try it one day, I do like the LNER meal option though!Lumo seating on my Opinion (from actually trying it) is better and more comfortable than LNER first class and standard seating.
They have a trolley of drinks and snacks come through, which admittedly not frequent, but if that’s an issue purchase some foods from the shops at stations before travel.
