HST coach disposals

Disposal is a decision for the ROSCO - Porterbrook for these two - not XC.
Porterbrook in the past seem to have been keen to dispose of their unwanted Mk3s as quickly as possible, compared to Angel who are more content to store them and try to find a further use (which in the case of the Mexican exports has paid off).

It almost seems that the Mexicans were just a shade too early; if they’d held on they could have had several fully serviceable sets in good condition and with sliding doors!

Of that lot, I’d say only the 365s were an early withdrawal. And they were not bought with taxpayers’ money - they were leased from day 1.

The HSTs in particular have been exceptionally good value.

Yes they were bought with British taxpayer money, they were then sold by the government to leasing companies with the funds going back into the treasury.

I don't really understand. They are end of life, and the private companies that own them are selling them to a scrap company at the market rate. The taxpayer has nothing to do with it.

I suppose, tenuously, it might be argued that the vast expense of accessibility modifications to the remaining HST trailers was poor value for money given the cost and lifespan, but even that would be clutching at straws somewhat.

You're complaining that units that have served their useful life (365s excepted) are being sent for scrap because they were originally paid for with taxpayer money?

Which ignores the fact that they were then sold to the ROSCOs who have funded improvements and upgrades over the remaining lifespan of the units.

Are you saying they should be stored forever not scrapped because the way they were funded decades ago?

There were two outside Doncaster Wabtec visible from the platforms at the north end on Monday. Didn't see the numbers clearly but one could have been 42375 but couldn't be sure.

They found their way into a picture I took yesterday, one is 42374, the other isn't brilliantly clear in the picture, but looks like possibly 42538?

Just wondering if the mk3s will make it okay to Mexico. Sunday 2200 hours bbc weather forecast shows a very severe storm in the gulf of Mexico and Mexico Bay going out into the mid Atlantic. Hopefully they get there in one piece, ie the slam door ex Hst Coaches.
If not still time yet for some sliding door Hst mk3 ex Gwr ones to move across as well in the unlikely event though of this happening, hopefully for the final part of the journey, the hold of the boat does its job well.

I have the following vehicles at Wabtec for XC currently: 41035/195, 42036/374, 44017.

Definitely not 42538 - there's never been any HST vehicle with that number to my knowledge.

Also at Doncaster, it looked like ScotRail coaches over the back. Are they SR's, and if they are, are they ones that have been delivered and are back for repair/rework/servicing or new conversions?

There’s 3 rakes there which came back south for repairs a very long time ago but have subsequently been removed from the fleet. I’m guessing repairs were too difficult/ costly to effect.
