305? Mostly used on the southern West Anglia, but later to North Berwick.

Um, actually, 308 works as well. Might have a slight problem here.

That has to be the 308s, surely?

Correct! You floor, do with what you will but try and leave it clean and tidy once you've finished ;)

That is true but it was the 308 that I was thinking about sorry Ivo...

Also 305s were built at both York and Doncaster whilst 308s were only built at York ;)

I'm going offline soon and as this appears to be a faster thread that the "guess the working" one I think I should point out the trapdoor; maybe Ivo would like to take it?

Very well then Peter, thank you.

See what ye all be making of this then.

A unit classed as either 1xx or 2xx, I was introduced not later than 1990. I am a rare sight in the United Kingdom now. Some similar units still exist in passenger service however, and some are even thought to have made it to Holland. All of the digits in my TOPS number is formed at least partly of straight lines.

1) I operated for slightly over a decade
2) Ride quality was an issue
3) I am the forerunner of an icon

Is the class still in operation or has it been withdrawn?

Surely it can't be the 141? I used that already! Twice in the first few?

It does seem to fit though :?

No it's no of those.

Okay another clue, which should hopefully make it obvious

4) I had only one class throughout and it wasn't standard (or third )

Nice easy one to keep the game running well then:

1)we now only run on 2 Network Rail lines.
2)we have a 70mph top speed.
3)we also operate (modified) under another class designation.

Okey doke, then.

A fairly rare sight as a general rule, this unit is or was however very common in the areas it serves or served. Its capacity is or was very high for the number of coaches it has or had - almost too high. One unusual feature about the train makes or made it quite popular among enthusiasts, but not all. Several similar classes exist(ed) in what is now Southeastern territory. If listed by TOPS number, the class after this is or was very rare.
