The TAB (Track Access Billing) between Euston and Picc on electric traction is now around £14,000 a pop - that is a lower end estimate, and that is before anything else.
Are you sure about that? According to Network Rail they charge charter operators 21.764 pence per kWh for electric traction. I’m assuming this 3,700 kW quoted for the 90s is relevant so 3700 * 5 (hours of the return trip) * 21.764p is about £4K.

Need to do recalculations, we were told the TAB for Picc to Euston on a 390, maybe this was the full cost I don't know, I've text a friend.
TAB's also include the cost of using the infrastructure as well as the electric bill.

It's listed as hauling 300 tonnes on RTT, so around 380 total.

That assumes the loco is on full chat for the entire run. Which, clearly, it won't be!

As it's been extended, is there any wiggle room in the path to use 100mph or even 90mph traction, meaning if it was pathed for a 100mph loco?

I've split discussion of the additional service trains this week into a new thread here to avoid discussion of the Friday-only charters being conflated with the extra services being run on behalf of Avanti.

For what purpose? there cant be profit in this.
Maybe they're hoping passenger numbers will gradually improve week on week to the point it is profitable.

I'm hoping it does stick around until December, I'll probably be going to London at some point between now and then anyway and I'd happily adjust my plans to ensure I'm travelling back on this service but I'm not sufficiently bothered to make a special trip to London and back purely for this.

After seeing Geoff's video trying to book but only get given a seat in a 4-bay. Are there any 2-bay window seats available?

Not normally looking at this subforum, I was unaware of this service until Geoff Marshal's video, which I'm sure will boost short term business

I'm tempted to build this into a trip to London somehow.

GA did a lovely job on those carriages.

Must admit this isn't the biggest shock in the world - particularly as the same stock was used in-service a couple of weeks ago so the 'enthusiast' part of the market has been able to have much more opportunity to catch one without paying the premium (in a lot of cases) for a private charter.

Reported elsewhere that following a review of operations tomorrow (Friday 30th September) will be the last of these until further notice. The website ( https://inter-city.co.uk/ ) is to be updated in due course apparently.
That would be a shame. I have a booking in November from Euston to Manchester. Hopefully they will issue an update soon and I will get a refund!

You are probably right. I took the Intercity Class 90 from Euston to MK Central twice the other weekend. £10 return versus £75 one way was an attractive option.

I'd been hoping to work a ride into my next trip to London, in November, so I'm a wee bit disappointed - but very far from surprised.

It was doomed the moment I decided I wanted to give it a try. Like most of the railtours I've tried to go on this year.

The incoming service looks as though it's still sitting on Platform 12 at Crewe (it was meant to leave for Euston at 1440). Anyone know why?

On the move now 68 down - looks like it has been "topped" by 90001 with 86101 dead on the rear.
