I'm sure this will start off a big debate, but it has been proven AND ruled in legal proceedings. End of an argument I always knew I was right in (by purchasing the PS3)

An eagle-eyed gamer noticed an advert for the Xbox version of the hit Final Fantasy XIII actually used PS3 images.

The Advertising Standards Authority tested the game on both consoles using an identical setup and agreed – Sony’s PS3 version was sharper.

A gaming expert yesterday warned the decision could hurt Microsoft, makers of the Xbox. ‘A ruling like this could prove devastating to sales of the Xbox, simply because gamers are a very demanding lot who expect the very best,’ said the anonymous expert.

Square-Enix, makers of the sci-fi role-playing Final Fantasy series, said the TV advert used images that did not contain actual gameplay but had been taken from full motion video (FMV). They admitted, however, the images used were ‘played back’ on the PS3 as it ‘allowed advertisers to capture the FMV footage for the advert’.

The ASA said: ‘The PS3 image in video sequences appeared sharper and colours were more vivid than those of the Xbox 360.’

It said the advert should have featured footage derived from the Xbox. ‘Because it did not, and because we considered that the use of PS3 footage in the ad exaggerated the quality of the footage available on the Xbox 360, albeit marginally, we concluded the ad was misleading,’ it added.

Square-Enix told the ASA it did not believe ‘any average viewer, or indeed avid gamer’ would see any difference unless ‘reviewing the materially forensically’

Before what?

Before the Xbox release, no. At the same time as the Xbox release, yes.

You couldn't get GTA on PS3 before that because it was exclusive to another excellent gaming console, the Playstation 2. Those were in the good old days when you Xbox boys had to wait until we'd finished GTA on our Playstation's before you were even allowed to get the game.

Anyway, good to see that the Advertising Standards Authority have confirmed what any serious gamer already knew.

Graphics are better, several games are available for PS3 which run at 1080P, a resolution the Xbox can't even handle, all the others at a similar 720P but far better fram rate than the Xbox. Your machine randomly dies, well my PS3 doesn't LOL.

How silly of you, the PS3 didn't get released until 2006 in Japan, whereas the first GTA for Xbox came out in 2003 before it was built, so obviously it wasn't available first. However, it was available on PS2 version was available in 2001, so does that make the PS2 better than Xbox just cos GTA came out first? How silly indeed.

this says something about Microsoft doesn't it, they produce inferior products, having used windows, a mac (albeit in the apple shop), and Linux, as well as Microsoft office and open office. MSTS, BVE and trainz, an Xbox and a PS3 I can say that all of the crappy stuff in that list gets sh@t out of Microsoft. the only reason people use Microsoft's products is because they are familiar, there is no other reason to support them.

if you have used Linux or Mac you can see how much faster/easier to use/better looking your computer can be.

Watch Sky? Play Forza?

I have a telly to watch Sky and who wants Forza when you have to wait an exhorbetant amount of time, but end up with GT5, which plays in 1080P and has fully licensed WRC and Nascar? Plus, when they delayed GT5 AGAIN, they made a development version freely available for download to apologise. PS3 adverts use in game footage, Xbox adverts use lots of FMV, so that's the graphics dealt with. Oh, and of couse it's free to use the PS3 online isn't it.

I have no issue with people saying that PC's are/can be better for gaming then a PS3 though as that's an argument I don't totally disagree with, as I'm not a Playstation fan boy. It's just the cheer leading Xbox fans who get my goat.

I'm a ps3 man myself, though both the consoles have their pros and cons, the ps3 is just far superior in build quality. The x box is good, but it has reached its limits for now, the ps3 has still to reach them.

Having read up on GT5 at gtplanet.net I'm amazed at some of the game screens and in game video, not to mention the brilliant photo mode too. They have some 18MP images there, and they show the awesome detail that the models include, and they'll support full damage and have about 20 in each race grid. Random surprises for me are the track creator and the karting mode - hellfire!

The 360 has had its fair share of problems (most I believe have now been sorted) but the PS3 has had its own issues....though perhaps not quite as bad?

I wonder also how many bought the PS3 purely for a cheap Blu Ray alternative rather for the games console its self?

Xbox is good for Forza only and the only game i play on it, i want a PS3 just for GT5 oh and for the Blu Ray player . But will stick to the pc as prefier it and look at the comparasion shots on the demo of Mafia II quite intresting.

I've decided to go back a few years recently and use the consoles left in the wardrobe. So far have nearly completed Super Mario Land 2 on the Gameboy Color and have just started again with Grand Theft Auto on the PC (the original one). Pity I can't find Sim City 3000 again.

I lost my copy :cry: My all-time favourite handheld mainstream Mario game, and second only to Mario Kart DS overall.

I think my all-time biggest gaming achievement is probably getting through Paper Mario 2 and Ocarina of Time without a guide or dying!

Thats exactly the reason I steer well clear of Nintendo consoles...too lovey dovey, too cartoony and too family oriented. Great for some people I guess but does not suit my gaming preferences at all.

The only Nintendo console I have ever owned was a second hand N64 purely to play Goldeneye and even then it played second fiddle to my *Dreamcast.

*Not sure why the Dreamcast failed so well? it was a great little thing!

Scary, I also own a used N64 that was purchased for the sole use of playing Goldeneye. What a fantastic game that was, thoroughly addictive and enjoyable too. I found it somewhat too amusing to keep running into that container where Robbie Coltrane was hidden and just blaze him with the two silver Magnums until the mission failed.......great days!
