47637 IC red stripe, Scotrail brand, westie logo, shown here.

Inverness stag adorned IC-Scotrail examples were certainly the more common sights in my Rail Rovers of 1988 & 1990.

Interesting, perhaps that was the only one to feature a Westie then. Only a few IC-liveried locos carried the ScotRail branding, those being 47430, 47541, 47637/642/643 I believe.

47593 definitely had a Scottie dog like that in 1988

I have a photo of it at ED on 24/08/88 without, unless it was only on one side.

You can add 47461 & 47492 to that list

You are right. Here it is
Image shows 47593 in 1988 at Dunblane, sporting red stripe, InterCity branding and unmistakable dog logo.

Errrr, neither of the linked photos has a West Highland White dog logo on.

47492 has standard Inverness turn-out, of InterCity red stripe and Highland stag logo.

47461 has neither a stag nor a dog; although I saw it August 1988 sporting blue stripe and Highland stag logo.

Errrr, neither of the linked photos has a West Hughland White dog logo on.

47492 has standard Inverness turn-out, of InterCity red stripe and Highland stag logo. 47541 was similarly treated, amongst others.

I appreciate they didn't have depot emblems, but I was responding to the livery!!

I don't recall any IC-liveried locos carrying a Westie
OK, so I got the question wrong....apologies!!

Anyway the argument is irrelevant as LSL will stick a dog/castle/stag on it if they feel like it, whether authentic or not.
I refer to the livery worn by 37401 & 37409 as evidence that LSL will do what they like (and rightly so, as the owners).

Interesting. That dog had been removed by the August when I saw the loco at ED.

Did your photo of 593 get taken from the same side, or the other side, to the photo I linked from Flickr?

It'll be interesting to see whether it emerges this spring with one, two or no West Highland White terriers on it. :)

OT but I'll sift my 35mm photos of that period, to hunt out the Scottish 'uns. :D

This may be a sacrilegious comment, but I'd quite like to see more of the fleet in the LNWR style lined black livery. I did a Statesman last year with 57002 and it looked very smart in that livery with the Locomotive Services logo on it. You can now all feel free to lay into me!

It's good to see loco owners doing more than "what it had in BR days", I agree. The Scotrail-homage 37/4s I really do like. 37418 Loram Rail colours I rather like too.

And, after all, BR's Stratford depot was doing their own thing for years! Grey roofed 47s when everything on BR was in all-blue; the Silver Jubilee "Union Flag" twins 47173 and 47174; 47170 displaying a future nod to large-logo; 47583 with a red-white-blue logo; 37116 in unique livery; the list goes on! 8-)

Years ago - around the time 97561 (later 47973) appeared in its quasi-Midland red livery, I recall a feature in the modelling press (ModelRAIL possibly) where the author had re-sprayed Lima 47s into fictitious liveries. One was - yep, you guessed - lined black, although I think it was closer to British Railways' steam red + straw lining. Looked the business. 8-)

It's a smart looking livery and is almost identical to the livery worn by Pete Waterman's 47s in the mid-to-late 1990s.

I agree it is a good looking livery but hopefully the Ronnies just have it. Not the 47's. Maybe add the Locomotive services logo if needed.

Anybody know why Blue Peter seems to have gone back to Carlisle after initially heading out down the Cumbrian Coast?

And is it going back via Shap instead?

Thanks!

From what I can gather online, the stock seems to be in P1 and Blue Peter has gone to Upperby sidings, presumably for more water before heading South.

A path has appeared on RTT for an LSL move from Carlisle to Carnforth this evening.

There is also one for a light locomotive heading North to Upperby sidings later on today.

Update: Blue Peter and support coach have just passed me. Passengers following in a separate diesel hauled train.

The problems on the coast aside, it was lovely to see Blue Peter going up Shap unassisted, no diesel in sight, with a full rake of Mk1s. I'm on the next Lakelander later in the month so I'm hoping for the same!

So here we are, 47593 has emerged in Intercity.
