Was on 018 this morning, good start to the day. Any reason to why there is 4 507s on the Chester/Ellesmere Port lines? Would expect 777s

Presumably because insufficient 777s were available. No complaints from me!

Good afternoon folks! Will be in Liverpool for the afternoon on Saturday as a tourist with my beloved. Just wondering what the chances are of us finding a 507 or 2 as an extra treat? I've noticed on here that they look to be taking more of a back seat on Saturdays so I'm not getting my hopes up! Do they have any regular diagrams on Saturdays that we could aim for, or is it more a case of how many newfangled things are unavailable?

Bear in mind only the Wirral Line & Hunts Cross lines will be running in Liverpool this weekend due to planned engineering work. Bus replacements out towards Hall Road, Aintree and Rice Lane.

Suggest you head for New Brighton, appears to be the last bastion for 507's. Three 507 turns each day at the moment.

Good evening, I'm planning to go to Liverpool in April (around easter time) to spot 507's, does anyone know if/where they'll be operating by then?

(Last time I was there was before the 777 order AFAIK)

It’s been posted above. Withdrawals paused until April. New Brighton 3 diagrams and Southport / Hunts Cross 3 diagrams. Plus frequent substitutions on Chester and Ellesmere Port.

What many people forget is the price of city centre accommodation so consider staying in new brighton and getting the train in.

There’s also a Travelodge at New Brighton and a Premier Inn in Birkenhead among other options.

The prices are usually reasonable if you can avoid football or event days and book a bit in advance. But it's absolutely reasonable to stay outside the city and use Merseyrail to travel in, just like many do down south to avoid paying a London hotel £300 a night for a shoebox.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Sounds like a good shout. Will keep a watch for reports on here, but as we'd quite like to sample a ride on the ferry too, we might see about going one way on the ferry and one way on the train (possibly with a bus to join the dots as there looks to be a gap between the two that I can't remember how far it is). I'll be quiet now though before I drag us too far off the topic of the thread!

The walk between Seacombe and New Brighton takes around 45 minutes, the half-hourly 411 bus takes about ten from memory.

Also not far from Seacombe Ferry Terminal is the Emergency Services Training Centre where those two derelict 508 vehicles can be seen in the yard outside.

When did they get put there? 2014 Google Street View shows them not there, but 2017 Google Street View shows them there.

Three 777 diagrams are being covered by 507s today: 507010 on the Ellesmere Port line (currently working the 11.42 circuit), 507010 Chester line (12.01 circuit) and 507018 was on the New Brighton line's 777 board this morning (XX.23 circuits).

Out on the regular diagrams were the following:
Southport line - 507001 + 507017, 507014 + 507020 and 507003 + 507033, working the 15.12, 15.27 and 15.42 from Southport respectively.
New Brighton line - 507030, 507021 and 507028, working the XX.38, XX.53 and XX.08 circuits respectively.

507002 and 507031 are stabled at Southport, 507007 and 507029 are stabled at New Brighton, with 507015 and 507023 currently out of use at Birkenhead North Depot. Lastly, 507016 worked empty from Kirkdale to Birkenhead North as 5T62 this morning.

Just got off 507011 at Bromborough 1412 from Lime Street, pint in the pub next door until it comes back at 1518, only 1 of the 4 turns Southport to Hall Road is a 507

507010 is on the 1547 James Street to Ellesmere Port

Nice to see plenty of the old-timers out today with 13 of the 19 running despite the engineering work.

On the Northern Line, we have 507014 (13.31 from Hall Road) on the Hall Road - Southport section, plus three formations on the Liverpool Central - Hunts Cross: 507002 (10.59 from Central), 507031 (10.44) and 507003 + 507033 (11.14).

The Wirral Line has three on the West Kirby line, the most in a while: 507016 (17.36 circuit), 507020 (17.51) and 507029 (16.51). There is one each on the Chester and Ellesmere Port lines respectively: 507011 (18.01) and 507010 (18.12). Lastly, the New Brighton line has 507007 (XX.05 from Liverpool Central), 507021 (XX.35) and 507030 (XX.20).

Thanks for the update. Have 507015 and 507023 been out recently - dont recall seeing them being reported recently?

Neither of these has been out for a week or two now as far as I know.

507003 appears to have been performing track recording runs today on the Wirral Line as 5T73, mainly shuttling between Liverpool and New Brighton.

I've also heard it mentioned by a couple of Merseyrail people that 507003 may stay beyond the withdrawal of the rest of the fleet for this purpose. Hopefully someone can confirm or deny.

Are the last New Brighton booked turns planned to go over to 777 anytime soon?

No. As I posted a few weeks ago, 507 withdrawal is paused until mid-April. Using 777s for the Grand National would be a recipe for disaster.

Yes, withdrawal, which suggests standing down and/or disposing. I enquired about the next reduction in diagrams, that's all. :)
