and Marylebone an artificially high 10 min MCT
I don't think 10 minutes is unreasonable for Marylebone. Its quite a distance from the short platforms via the concourse to the far end of the long side platform. [Sorry cant remember platform numbers]

That or a "via London" fare will shortly be added for Banbury, and the two processes are just a bit out of sync.
I have absolutely no confidence that this will happen. The processes aren't just out of sync, there is no connection whatsoever.

It's a shame the system can't differentiate platforms. To use Manchester Piccadilly as an example, 13/14 to the main station could do with an extra 5 minutes compared to between trainshed platforms (most people won't think of shortcutting via the bridge), while "same platform" on 13 or 14 could easily be 5 minutes total.

I agree. It would be very useful. I appreciate platforms can change but then they can be changed at the last minute any way.

Some more changes were published in the routeing guide on Wednesday.
Changes from 11 Sep 2024 (521) to 25 Sep 2024 (522).

Permitted Route changes:
Grantham (GRA) to Llandudno Junction (LLJ) gain DL+PR+JO DL+PR+MJ
These journeys now have mapped routes via Chesterfield.

This change doesn't let you catch a Norwich-Liverpool train to Manchester and a Manchester-Llandudno train from there (which is sometimes the next fastest route for the journey). You are now allowed to catch the first train to Warrington Central and take the Llandudno train from Warrington Bank Quay, but the timings don't work as well.

Easement changes:

Added:

701262 (Fare route) Due to rail replacement services operating between Birmingham and Gloucester on the 28 and 29 September 2024. Customers with tickets priced on (00171) VIA CHELTENHAM, may travel via Gloucester. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
There are no trains between Bromsgrove and Gloucester at the weekend, and trains from the southwest are being diverted to terminate in Gloucester. This easement means that (for instance) a Birmingham-Bristol ticket is valid on non-stop Birmingham-Gloucester buses.

701263 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling with tickets priced on (00836) VIA WESTBURY, may travel on rail replacement services from Trowbridge which do not call at Westbury. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
This has been announced more than 13 weeks in advance, so I have little extra information. That said, no trains are due to stop in Westbury on the days I checked, and there are non-stop Trowbridge-Salisbury buses in the schedule. This easement would let (say) a Salisbury-Taunton ticket be used on one of those buses.

701264 (Doubleback) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling to Avoncliff, Freshford and Bradford on Avon via Frome may travel on rail replacement services that call at Westbury. This doubleback easement applies in both directions.
Typically, someone with (say) a Bradford-on-Avon-Aldermaston ticket would catch a train to Westbury and a second train east. With westbury station closed, this changes to catching a bus to Frome and a train from there. The bus stops in Westbury. The train doesn't, but retailers treat the train as if it goes through the station anyway. The easement says that this is permitted.

Someone with a "via Newbury" Bath-Aldermaston ticket can't take advantage of this easement, and I'm not totally sure what options there would be other than paying extra to travel via Swindon.

Does anyone know why some engineering easements are issued weeks in advance, but others just a week before or in some cases never?

Is it just that it isn't spotted that the easement is needed?

Some TOCs, such as GWR, are simply more organised than others when it comes to planning engineering works and working through their implications for passengers.

Some more changes were published in the routeing guide yesterday.
Changes from 25 Sep 2024 (522) to 27 Sep 2024 (523).

Permitted Route changes:
Grantham (GRA) to Llandudno Junction (LLJ) gain DL+PR+JG lose DL+PR+JO
This journey no longer has mapped routes which go via Chesterfield, Wilmslow and Birchwood.
It now has mapped routes which go via Chesterfield and Earlestown.

Easement changes:

Removed:

701237 (Map) During the closure of the Severn Tunnel from 24 to 25 August 2024, tickets to South Wales will be diverted via Gloucester, Severn Tunnel Junction and Newport (South Wales). This map easement applies in both directions

701239 (Fare route) During the closure of the Severn Tunnel from 24 to 25 August 2024, tickets priced on (00843) VIA SEVERN TUNNEL JUNCTION and (00911) VIA SEVERN TUNNL, to Chepstow and Lydney will be valid on services diverted via Gloucester. This fare route easement applies in both directions

701240 (Local) During the closure of the Severn Tunnel from 24 to 25 2024, tickets to Severn Tunnel Junction, Caldicott, Chepstow and Lydney from local stations in Bristol for travel via Bristol Parkway will be valid on diverted via Gloucester. This local easement applies in both directions

701243 (Map) During the closure of the Severn Tunnel from 24 to 25 August 2024, tickets to South Wales will be diverted via Gloucester, Severn Tunnel Junction and Newport (South Wales). This map easement applies in both directions
These were temporary easements, and the dates have all passed.

Changed (added sections in red, removed ones in green):

701263 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling with tickets priced on (00816) WESTBRY SHAMPTON,(00836) VIA WESTBURY,(00837) WESTBURY & SALISBURY and (00846) YEOVIL WESTBURY may travel on rail replacement services from Trowbridge which do not call at Westbury. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
This improves the range of tickets which are valid on the replacement buses, so it now cover all of the flexible tickets which normally require travel via Westbury.

700885 (Doubleback) From 15 December 2019 customers travelling from Lawrence Hill, Filton Abbeywood, Ashley Down, Stapleton Road and via Stapleton Road to Bristol Parkway or via Bristol Parkway may doubleback at Bristol Temple Meads. This doubleback easement will apply in both directions.

701085 (Local) Customers travelling from Filton Abbeywood to Ashley Down or Stapleton Road may travel via Bristol Temple Meads. This local easement applies in both directions.
Ashley Down has been added to the easements which applied to Stapleton Road. It has also been added to the data for a few other easements where the data referred to Stapleton Road but the text did not. They are:

700701 (Routeing Point) This positive routeing point easement will override fares checking and allow journeys to Amersham via London Paddington from origins beyond Reading and Newbury . This easement will apply in both directions

700712 (Routeing Point) To allow journeys on Saturdays to Newport (South Wales) from Pilning to travel via Filton Abbeywood, this routeing point easement will override fares checking in journey planners.

700731 (Fare route) Tickets from Bristol priced on fare route (00804) VIA WORCESTER are valid via Cheltenham Spa. this positive fare route easement works in both directions.

700765 (Local) To allow journeys from Severn Beach, St Andrews Road, Avonmouth, Portway Park and Ride, Shirehampton, Sea Mills, Clifton Down, Redland, Stapleton Road, Montpelier, Lawrence Hill, Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Parkway to Pilning via Severn Tunnel Junction, this local easement will apply on Saturdays.

701255 (Map) From 28 to 31 October 2024, the line between Bath Spa and Bristol is closed for engineering works. For customers travelling from Chippenham and Melksham to Bristol, this map easement will create temporary permissions via Swindon. It will apply in both directions.

Station association changes:

Ashley Down (ASD) is no longer associated with Bristol Group (G05).
Ashley Down (ASD) is now part of Bristol Group (G05)
This puts Ashley Down inside Bristol Group. This has various effects, one being that (say) a Cheltenham-Patchway ticket lets you double back between Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Temple Meads.

Station link changes:

Filton Abbey Wood (FIT) to Stapleton Road (SRD) no longer has a distance of 2.93.
A distance via Ashley Down was added last year, so this removes a duplicate. By adding the distances to and from Ashley Down, the distance between the stations remains 2.93 miles.

(I'm not sure if this has already been asked) I know we don't even have an opening date yet, but how far in advance should permitted routes involving the next stage of East West Rail be known? Beyond that, I'd guess that the next big change is HS2.

Newcastle – Manors is barely half a mile, so would it be safe to guess that all fares from Ashington etc. – north of Newcastle, and definitely north of Morpeth, would be fine via Newcastle Central rather than having to change at Manors?

At a guess, fares are unlikely to appear much earlier than a month before services start.

There were all temporary easements which covered dates which have passed.

Added:

701265 (Circuitous Route) Due to engineering works on the 05 -06 October 2024 and 9 to 22 November 2024 between Exeter and Axminster. Journeys from Honiton to London Terminals on fare route (00000 ANY PERMITTED) are not valid via Exeter St Davids. This applies in both directions.
As the line through Honiton is closed at the weekend, you'd need to catch a bus whichever route you took. Some of the buses to Exeter don't stop at stations between Honiton and Exeter Central, so the journey time is similar on either route. This aim of the easement is to stop Honiton-London tickets from being used via Exeter, perhaps because a Honiton-London ticket isn't normally valid that way.

701266 (Map) During engineering works, impacting journeys from Didcot Parkway to London, on the 17 November 2024, and the 27 - 29 December 2024, travel will be valid via Oxford Parkway and High Wycombe to London Marylebone. This map easement will apply in both directions.
London Paddington is closed on 17th November, so this lets some people take a longer, less disrupted route between Didcot and London. Other routes (such as ones to London Waterloo or London Euston) are also available.

The data doesn't mention London, but adds the routeing points between Didcot and London Marylebone (Didcot, Oxford, Princes Risborough, South Ruislip and London Marylebone) to routes to or from Didcot.

701267 (Fare route) During engineering works on the 17 November 2024 and between 27 and 29 December 2024 tickets from Hereford, Ledbury, Colwall, Great Malvern, Malvern Link, Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Worcestershire Parkway, priced on (00799) LONDON EVESHAM, (00803) EVESHAM/STROUD, (00805) VIA EVESHAM, for journeys to or via London, will be valid via Birmingham Moor Street for journeys via High Wycombe. This fare route easement applies in both directions
This lets you go via Birmingham Moor Street (specifically) if you are going from one of the stations between Hereford and Worcestershire Parkway inclusive, are going via High Wycombe, and are using a ticket with one of the above route codes. It doesn't include every "Evesham" route code, so there are flexible Amersham-Worcester tickets which can be used via London and Birmingham but no Ipswich-Worcester ones.

The data for this easement includes the same restrictions, but also has an extra one, in that it doesn't allow travel via Oxford.

701268 (Map) During engineering works on the 17 November 2024 and between 27 and 29 December 2024 tickets from Hereford, Ledbury, Colwall, Great Malvern, Malvern Link, Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Worcestershire Parkway, priced on (00799) LONDON EVESHAM, (00803) EVESHAM/STROUD, (00805) VIA EVESHAM, for journeys to or via London, will be valid via Birmingham Moor Street for journeys via High Wycombe. This map easement applies in both directions.
This is a "map" version of 701267. The data adds the routeing points between Birmingham Group and London Marylebone (Birmingham Group, Tyseley, Warwick Group, Leamington, Banbury Group, Princes Risborough, South Ruislip and London Marylebone) to routes from or to a station between Hereford and Worcestershire Parkway inclusive where the route doesn't go via Oxford.

701269 (Local) During engineering works on 17 November 2024, and between 27 - 29 December 2024 tickets from Worcestershire Parkway, priced on (00799) LONDON EVESHAM, (00803) EVESHAM/STROUD and (00805) VIA EVESHAM for journeys to or via London, will be valid via Birmingham Moor Street for journeys via High Wycombe. This local easement applies in both directions
This is a local easement for Worcestershire Parkway alone.

The data says Worcester Group and Worcestershire Parkway are applicable locations for a journey from or to Worcestershire Parkway which go via High Wycombe and have one of the specific route codes.

I don't know what exactly this does, or which tickets it is important for. It's hard to tell what has changed because of it when there are a few other easements for the same line closure.

701270 (Circuitous Route) During engineering works on the 17 November 2024 and between 27 and 29 December 2024 tickets from Hereford, Ledbury, Colwall, Great Malvern, Malvern Link, Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Worcestershire Parkway, priced on (00799) LONDON EVESHAM, (00803) EVESHAM/STROUD, (00805) VIA EVESHAM, for journeys to or via London, will not be valid on Cross Country services via Birmingham. This circuitous route easement applies in both directions
This says that, if you travel via High Wycombe from one of the above stations with one of the above routes, you can't use Crosscountry. Or perhaps that you can't use Crosscountry through High Wycombe? I'm not sure, but going to Birmingham from Worcestershire Parkway without using Crosscountry seems awkward.

701271 (Routeing Point) Advance tickets for journeys from Chelmsford to Cambridge and Cambridge North are valid via Ipswich. This routeing point easement applies in both directions
The data for this easement is a little different. It makes Witham (not Ipswich) a valid routeing point for all Chelmsford-Cambridge/Cambridge North journeys.

For advance tickets, whether you can buy a ticket with an itinerary is more important that the rules. With this easement, nre.co.uk offers itineraries via London or Ipswich between Chelmsford and Cambridge, but only offers ones via London between Chelmsford and Cambridge North.

It doesn't offer advance tickets between Chelmsford and Waterbeach on either route. I don't know if this is connected.

701272 (Doubleback) Customers travelling to Deansgate from Trafford Park. Or on trains that are routed via Trafford Park. May interchange at Manchester Oxford Road. This doubleback easement applies in both directions.
Few trains from or to the Trafford Park direction stop in Deansgate. and a ticket to Manchester Stations wouldn't otherwise let you get there.

It doesn't seem to work (at least, not on nre.co.uk), which may be because the specification needs Manchester Oxford Road to have "double back" and "via" records, but it only has a "double back" one.

In addition to the above changes, Attenborough, Beeston and Nottingham have been added as applicable locations in the data for easement 700691. The text remains:
700691 (Map) Holders of season tickets from origin Sheffield to Attenborough;
Beeston or Nottingham may travel via Derby. This map easement applies in both
directions
I don't konw if the data matters for this easement as it only affects season tickets, and I don't know of a way to check the permitted routes for one of those.

In addition, the following was added yesterday (Thursday).
Changes from 02 Oct 2024 (524) to 03 Oct 2024 (525).

Easement changes:

Added:

701273 (Fare route) During engineering works, when rail replacement bus services will be operating from Gloucester on 12th, 13th and 20th October 2024. Tickets priced on (00171) VIA CHELTENHAM will be valid on the rail replacement services via Gloucester and Birmingham that do not call at Cheltenham Spa. This fare route easement applies in both directions
There are no trains between Bromsgrove and Gloucester on these dates, and trains from the southwest are being diverted to terminate in Gloucester. This easement means that (for instance) a Birmingham-Bristol ticket is valid on non-stop Birmingham-Gloucester buses.

This local easement applies in both directionsThis is a local easement for Worcestershire Parkway alone.

I guess it will allow journeys from WOP to London Terminals with those routes, which would normally have to go to London Paddington on GWR, to instead go via Birmingham and on to Marylebone on Chiltern, which would usually require a more expensive route 00363 VIA H WYC & BIRM fare.

Attenborough, Beeston and Nottingham have been added as applicable locations in the data for easement 700691. The text remains:
700691 (Map) Holders of season tickets from origin Sheffield to Attenborough;
Beeston or Nottingham may travel via Derby. This map easement applies in both
directions
I don't konw if the data matters for this easement as it only affects season tickets, and I don't know of a way to check the permitted routes for one of those.

What is the reason for.a season ticket only easement? Why would season ticket holders want to travel via Derby as opposed to non-season ticket holders?

I am guessing a season ticket holder complained. Any Permitted tickets from Sheffield to Nottingham & vice versa had been valid via Derby for decades.

Indeed. It'd be also interesting to see if the correct procedures were followed for the withdrawal of this permitted route given its historical validity. I certainly remember doing this journey on an off peak return about nine years ago

Has it been withdrawn then? I must have missed that.

Interestingly it wasn't fixed, unless fixing it for season ticket holders only is classed as a fix.

Some changes were published in the routeing guide on Wednesday.
Changes from 03 Oct 2024 (525) to 09 Oct 2024 (526).
Easement changes:
Added:
701274 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling with tickets priced on (00136) VIA MELKSHAM may travel via Bath Spa. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
There are "via Melksham" tickets between Swindon or Chippenham and stations further south. No trains are going to Melksham then (not sure why, as the description on nre.co.uk only refers to Westbury and a viaduct south of Warminster), so this easement lets through passengers use a longer route without paying extra.

701275 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling from Freshford, Avoncliff, Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury, Dilton Marsh and Warminster to or via Reading. With tickets priced on (00063) VIA NEWBURY, may travel via Swindon. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
There are trains via Newbury then, but they don't stop in Westbury. This easement allows a less direct route.

Someone with a Warminster-London season ticket might prefer to travel via Salisbury, although parts of that route are also closed on some of the dates.

The following post was made on 18th October 2024.

Two easements were removed from the routeing guide on Wednesday.
Changes from 09 Oct 2024 (526) to 16 Oct 2024 (527).
Easement changes:
Removed:
701259 (Map) Due to engineering works on 13 October 2024, journeys from Guildford to Swanley may travel via Clapham Junction, Denmark Hill, Nunhead and St Mary Cray. This map easement applies in both directions
This was a temporary easement which only affected last Sunday.

700313 (Routeing Point) Customers travelling from Rose Hill, Romiley, Woodley, Hyde Central or Hyde North via Manchester Piccadilly may travel via Guide Bridge. This easement applies in both directions.
Other than Romiley, these stations are only served by trains which go via Guide Bridge.

This easement doesn't affect a huge number of journeys from these stations. For some, Guide Bridge is a valid routeing point anyway. For others, a route via Brinnington is the shortest one and the fastest route via Guide Bridge is allowed because it's only 3 miles further.

For a few, like Rose Hill-Alderley Edge, finding a journey which is shown as permitted by a retailer could be tricky, and anything they do accept is likely to be significantly slower than it used to be.

Do you or anyone else know the reason why this might have been removed? Was it to stop some particular ticket being valid?

I'm not sure, but I think it would have let you (say) use a Rose Hill-Sheffield ticket via Manchester.

Another possible approach to the problem this easement addressed would be to expand the use of "via Stockport" and "via Manchester" tickets. It could go a bit far, though; Rose Hill-Disley tickets are all "via Manchester" now, but it's usually quicker to go via New Mills.

If they wisht to stop a perticular journey, surely a circlitious route restruxtion would be better as it doesn't extend beyond what they wish to do, assuming it is something like this.

Some easements were added to the routeing guide yesterday.
Changes from 16 Oct 2024 (527) to 23 Oct 2024 (528).
Easement changes:
Added:
701276 (Fare route) Due to Industrial Action on London Underground. There will be no Chiltern services operating between Marylebone and Great Missenden via Chalfont & Latimer from 01 to13 November 2024. Customers traveling from Great Missenden, Wendover and Stoke Mandeville with tickets priced on (00264) CHALFONT & LATIMER may travel via Aylesbury. This Fare Route easement will apply in both directions.
Trains between Great Missenden and London Marylebone use London Underground track, so are directly affected by the London Underground strikes which are scheduled next month.

These easements are intended to let tickets which would normally only be valid via Chalfont & Latimer be used via Aylesbury and High Wycombe instead.

This easement means the "Chalfont & Latimer" route restriction doesn't stop an itinerary via Aylesbury from being valid. There are also replacement buses, but these don't need an easement as their schedules include Chalfont & Latimer even though they don't call there.

701277 (Routeing Point) Due to Industrial Action on London Underground. There will be no Chiltern services operating between Marylebone and Great Missenden via Chalfont & Latimer from 01 to13 November 2024. Customers traveling from Great Missenden, Wendover and Stoke Mandeville to or via London Marylebone may travel via Aylesbury. This Routeing Point Route easement will apply in both directions.
Aylesbury is not normally a valid routeing point for (as an example) Great Missenden for a journey to Ealing Broadway. This overrides that check.

701278 (Local) Due to Industrial Action on London Underground. There will be no Chiltern services operating between Marylebone and Great Missenden via Chalfont & Latimer from 01 to13 November 2024. Customers traveling from Great Missenden, Wendover and Stoke Mandeville to or via London Marylebone may travel via Aylesbury. This Local easement will apply in both directions.
A ticket between Great Missenden and London terminals (for one) is a local journey. This stops the route via Aylesbury from being denied because the route via Chalfont & Latimer is shorter.

The following post was created on 30th October 2024.

Some changes were published in the routeing guide this afternoon.
Changes from 23 Oct 2024 (528) to 30 Oct 2024 (529).
Easement changes:
Changed (added sections in red, removed ones in green):
700277 (Routeing Point) Customers travelling from Bearsted, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham or Charing via Ebbsfleet International in possession of tickets routed "Plus High Speed" (00131) PLUS HIGH SPEED may travel via Ashford International. This Routeing Point easement applies in both directions.
This adds Bearsted to the easement. It can be quicker to go via Ashford rather than via Maidstone and Ebbsfleet. It also helps distinguish "Plus High Speed" tickets from the cheaper "via Maidstone +HS" ones which are available between Bearsted and London, Heathrow and Stratford.

Route changes:
Changed (added sections in red, removed ones in green):
GN TLINK & CON (00030) (22 records)
must not go via London Liverpool Street (LST)
may only use Great Northern (GN), HC, Heathrow Express (HX), Greater Anglia (LE), Thameslink (TL) or Crosscountry (XC)
This should enable you to get an itinerary which involves Greater Anglia, so long as you don't use them all the way into London. It doesn't affect what is printed on the ticket.

This route code is used for journeys from March or Whittlesea, each of which has regular Greater Anglia trains.

Some changes were published in the routeing guide on Friday.
Changes from 30 Oct 2024 (529) to 08 Nov 2024 (530).

Easement changes:

Added:

701279 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling with tickets priced on routes (00618) VIA SALISBURY, (00627) SALISBURY/YEOVIL, (00836) VIA WESTBURY and (00837) WESTBURY AND SALISBURY may travel via Reading and Basingstoke. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
These are all additional easements for the closure of Westbury station from the end of December to January.

This easement permits travel via Reading Group or Basingstoke with one of the above route codes in place of the normal restrictions. Despite the name not mentioning it, three of these route codes have data which specifically prevent use via either Basingstoke or Reading.

I wasn't able to get an itinerary for a "via Westbury" Bristol Parkway-Pewsey ticket via Reading on nre.co.uk when I tried, so there may still be something missing.

701280 (Circuitous Route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling with tickets priced on routes (00618) VIA SALISBURY, (00627) SALISBURY/YEOVIL, (00836) VIA WESTBURY and (00837) WESTBURY AND SALISBURY may travel via Reading and Basingstoke. But not on Cross Country train services between 27 December and 01 January 2025. Nor from 02 - 23 January 2025 on Cross country services departing Reading between 14:00 and 18:00 each day. This circuitous route easement applies in both directions.
This prevents tickets with one of the above routes from being used with Crosscountry via Reading at the specified times.

I don't know what exactly triggers train company-specific easements, so I don't know how this affects the itineraries you can get with the tickets.

701281 (Map) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling from from Frome, Bruton and Castle Cary to or via Bristol may travel via Taunton . This map easement applies in both directions.
This is a map easement. The data adds Bristol Group, Castle Cary, Taunton and Westbury to mapped routes to Bruton, Castle Cary and Frome which go via Bristol Temple Meads. It adds Bristol Temple Meads (rather than Bristol Group) to journeys from or to Bristol Temple Meads, and doesn't affect journeys between Bristol Temple Meads and Frome at all.

There is a rule to permit journeys from Bruton, Castle Cary or Frome via Bristol Temple Meads, but it's only for journeys which also end there. I wasn't able to find an itinerary on nre.co.uk which uses this. It could be that the double back through Bristol Temple Meads invalidates the route.

701282 (Routeing Point) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling from Frome to Weston Milton, Worle, Yatton, Nailsea & Backwell, Parsons Street, Bedminster, Bristol Temple Meads or via Bristol Temple Meads may travel via Castle Cary. This routeing point easement overcomes NFM64 fares checking, and applies in both directions.
This makes Castle Cary a valid routeing point for Frome for journeys from and to places between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston Milton (Weston super Mare doesn't need it), as well as ones via Bristol Temple Meads.

701283 (Circuitous Route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 01 January 2025. Customers travelling from Frome, Bruton and Castle Cary to or via Bristol may travel via Taunton. But not on Cross Country Services. This circuitous route easement applies in both directions.
This attempts to restrict the extra validity easement 701281 gives to travellers on Crosscountry trains. It forbids travel on Crosscountry via Taunton for journeys from or to Castle Cary, Bruton or Frome which go from or to stations in Bristol Group, or go via Bristol Temple Meads.

701284 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling from Frome and Bruton on tickets priced on (00058) VIA TROWBRIDGE or (00831) VIA BATH SPA may travel via Castle Cary. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
Th data restricts this to journeys which go via Taunton but not Exeter. I couldn't obtain an itinerary via Castle Cary for a Frome-Worle ticket, although going via Taunton means following the shortest Frome-Castle Cary route and then the shortest Castle Cary-Worle one.

The following post was created on 17th November 2024.

Some easements were published in the routeing guide last week. Sorry about the delay.

These changes were published on Monday:
Changes from 08 Nov 2024 (530) to 11 Nov 2024 (531).

Easement changes:

Added:

701285 (Map) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling from Frome, Bruton and Castle Cary to or via Bristol may travel via Taunton. This map easement applies in both directions.
There are two more easements for the closure in Westbury after Christmas.

The data for this easement adds Westbury Group, Bristol Group, Taunton and Castle Cary to mapped routes which don't go through Bath, Chippenham, Exeter, Salisbury, Swindon or Yeovil Pen Mill.

701286 (Routeing Point) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling to Pewsey with tickets priced on routes (00836) VIA WESTBURY and (00837) WESTBURY AND SALISBURY may travel via Reading and Reading West. This fare route easement applies in both directions.
The data makes Reading Group a valid routeing point for "via Westbury" tickets (such as Pewsey-Bristol ones). It doesn't affect any "Westbury and Salisbury" tickets as the route isn't used for any relevant journeys.

701287 (Fare route) Due to engineering works in the evenings from 20:45 on the 11 to 14 November 2024, and after 23:30 from 02 to 05 December 2024. Tickets priced on (00118) VIA UPMINSTER, will be valid for travel via Grays. This fare route easement will apply in both directions.
This affected trains last week, but on 2nd-5th December some late evening trains are due to go to London Liverpool Street via Rainham rather than to London Fenchurch Street via Upminster. The amended timetable doesn't appear to be available yet, so I don't know exactly how much this would help.

The easement lets "via Upminster" tickets be used via Grays.
701288 (Map) Due to engineering works in the evenings from 20:45 on the 11 to 14 November 2024, and after 23:30 from 02 to 05 December 2024. Tickets priced on (00118) VIA UPMINSTER, will be valid for travel via Grays. This map easement will apply in both directions.
This is a map easement for the above engineering works. The data adds Stratford and every routeing point C2C call at except for London to mapped routes for "via Upminster" tickets. It applies until 6th December.

701289 (Routeing Point) Due to engineering works in the evenings from 20:45 on the 11 to 14 November 2024, and after 23:30 from 02 to 05 December 2024. Journeys to West Horndon and Laindon on tickets priced on (00118) VIA UPMINSTER, will be valid for travel via Grays and Pitsea. This routeing point easement applies in both directions
The data for this easement allows Pitsea to be used as a routeing point for journeys via Grays using a ticket with a "via Upminster" route code.

Changed (added sections in red, removed ones in green):

701281 (Map) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling from from Frome, Bruton and Castle Cary to or via Bristol may travel via Taunton . This map easement applies in both directions.
This fixes a misprint. The data has been amended as it now affects journeys from Bruton, Castle Cary and Frome, or to Frome, which go via Bristol.

And these changes were published on Tuesday:
Changes from 11 Nov 2024 (531) to 12 Nov 2024 (532).

Easement changes:

Removed:

701234 (Map) During engineering works on 20 October 2024, customers travelling from Shelford (Cambs), Whittlesford Parkway, Great Chesterford, Audley End, Newport (Essex), Elsenham (Essex), Stansted Mountfitchet and Stansted Airport to or via London may travel via Cambridge. This map easement applies in both directions

701235 (Routeing Point) During engineering works on 20 October 2024, customers travelling from Shelford (Cambs), Whittlesford Parkway, Great Chesterford, Audley End, Newport (Essex),and Elsenham (Essex), to or via London may travel via Cambridge. This routeing point easement applies in both directions

701255 (Map) From 28 to 31 October 2024, the line between Bath Spa and Bristol is closed for engineering works. For customers travelling from Chippenham and Melksham to Bristol, this map easement will create temporary permissions via Swindon. It will apply in both directions.

701260 (Fare route) From 28 to 31 October 2024, the line between Bath Spa and Bristol is closed for engineering works. For customers travelling with tickets priced on (00831) VIA BATH SPA, this fare easement will create temporary permissions via Swindon. It will apply in both directions.

This removes a few temporary easements for dates in the past.

This removes two of the easements added the previous day.

Added:

701290 (Fare route) Due to engineering works in the evenings from 20:45 on the 11 to 14 November 2024, and after 23:30 from 02 to 05 December 2024. Tickets priced on (00118) VIA UPMINSTER, will be valid for travel via Grays. This fare route easement will apply in both directions.

701291 (Routeing Point) Due to engineering works in the evenings from 20:45 on the 11 to 14 November 2024, and after 23:30 from 02 to 05 December 2024. Journeys to West Horndon and Laindon on tickets priced on (00118) VIA UPMINSTER, will be valid for travel via Grays and Pitsea. This routeing point easement applies in both directions
These are identical to 701287 and 701289, except that the time restrictions in the data for the new version are different. The original times had the start time after the end time for each day, and I don't know how that is interpreted.

Both easements now apply from 20:45 to 04:00 on 13-14/11 and 23:30 to 04:00 on 2-5/12.

701292 (Local) Customers travelling from Elmswell, Thurston, Bury St Edmunds and Kennett to Shippea Hill, Lakenheath, Thetford amd Brandon may travel via Cambridge. This local easement applies in both directions
Without any easements, the only valid route for these journeys would be via Soham. Trains from Bury St Edmunds to Cambridge are more frequent than ones which go that way. It's more extreme for the other stations, as only one train a day in one direction stops at Elmswell, Thurston or Kennett as well as going to Ely via Soham.

This easement is intended to let you go via Cambridge. The data doesn't support this fully, I believe because the rule for journeys to Bury St. Edmunds, etc., lacks an "applicable location".

The next station after Elmswell is Stowmarket, which doesn't need an easement as it's a routeing point, meaning that validity doesn't depend on "local route" rules in the same way. The next station after Thetford is Harling Road, which the same problem as it.

701293 (Local) Customers travelling from Elmswell to Thetford or Brandon may travel via Stowmarket and Norwich. This local easement applies in both directions
This gives an alternative route to Elsmwell for a couple of the stations afected by easement 701292.

Some changes were published in the routeing guide on Monday:
Changes from 12 Nov 2024 (532) to 25 Nov 2024 (533).
Map changes:
MN: Gain Leeds Group to/from Wakefield Group
MN: Gain Wakefield Group to/from Huddersfield Group
This map is used in 2906 routes.
VT: Gain Leeds Group to/from Wakefield Group
VT: Gain Wakefield Group to/from Huddersfield Group
This map is used in 20 routes.
VT is used on routes between Darlington, Middlesbrough and Northallerton at one end, and Hooton, Liverpool and Runcorn at the other, as well as Chester-Newcastle.

MN is used for a lot of routes to add a Leeds-Manchester link, including Leeds-Manchester itself (although SL+MR already allowed most of the routes MN does there).

These changes adds Huddersfield Group-Wakefield Group-Leeds Group to two maps, meaning that the route now appears on half of the 16 maps which include a direct Huddersfield-Leeds link. Some of the routes which still don't have map combinations which permit travel via Huddersfield and Wakefield are Chester-Hull, Darlington-Stalybridge and Leeds-Liverpool.

Easement changes:
Removed:
701215 (Map) During engineering works, TPE services between Leeds and Huddersfield will be diverted via Wakefield Kirkgate. This map easement will apply in both directions.
Some evening trains are still being sent that way, and some even do it in the standard timetable. Removing this easement means that a Horsforth-Stalybridge ticket isn't valid on (say) the 22:41 from Leeds on Friday.

This temporary easement didn't cover any dates after last Friday.

Added:
701294 (Map) On Sundays journeys from or via Inverkeithing are via Dundee. This map easement will create temporary map permissions between Ladybank and Perth via Dundee. It will apply in both directions
The data adds the Ladybank, Dundee and Perth routeing points to mapped routes which don't go through Aberdeen, Inverness or Stirling (the Inverness restriction doesn't affect "via Aviemore" tickets, but does apply to advance ones). The data only applies the easement on Sundays this year.

Changed:

The data for easement 701279 has been changed so as not to apply for journeys from or to London Blackfriars. The text doesn't mention this, and still reads:

701279 (Fare route) During engineering works closing Westbury Station from 27 December 2024 to 23 January 2025. Customers travelling with tickets priced on routes (00618) VIA SALISBURY, (00627) SALISBURY/YEOVIL, (00836) VIA WESTBURY and (00837) WESTBURY AND SALISBURY may travel via Reading and Basingstoke. This fare route easement applies in both directions.

The data for easement 701292 has also been amended, so that it now permits travel via Cambridge for journeys in both directions. The text remains:

701293 (Local) Customers travelling from Elmswell to Thetford or Brandon may travel via Stowmarket and Norwich. This local easement applies in both directions

The following post was made on 30th November 2024.

Some changes were published in the routeing guide yesterday.
Changes from 25 Nov 2024 (533) to 29 Nov 2024 (534).
Easement changes:
Added:
701295 (Circuitous Route) Customers travelling with tickets priced on routes (00000) ANY PERMITTED, (00200) VIA LONDON, (00312) VIA MANCHESTER, (00320) VIA SHREWSBURY, (00492) AP TFW LM & CONNS ONLY, (00439) XC & CONNECTIONS, (00452) AWC & CONNECTIONS, (00498) AP TFW ONLY, (00645) VIA CARDIFF, (00817) VIA BRISTOL, (01000) route dot ANY PERMITTED, may not use the TransCymru bus services that operate between Bangor and Aberystwyth. This circuitous route easement applies in both directions
This suggests that TfW plan to integrate another bus route into the rail timetable, although I don't know when this is to happen. This is another easement intended, like 700959 and 700960, to prevent most of the rail tickets people are likely to use from being valid on it.

701296 (Routeing Point) Customers travelling from Flitwick, Harlington (Beds), Leagrave, Luton, Luton Airport Parkway, Harpenden, St Albans City, Radlett, Elstree & Borehwood, Mill Hill Broadway, Hendon, Brent Cross West and Cricklewood to Chiswick, Kew Bridge, Brentford, Syon Lane and Isleworth may travel via West Hampstead Thameslink. This routeing point easement overcomes NFM64 fares checks and applies in both directions.
There are no fares in the NFM64 list between West Hampstead Thameslink and the stations between Chiswick and Isleworth, so this easement makes it easier to calculate mapped routes for the journeys listed in it.

There are other stations in the same situation, but the data makes West Hampstead Thameslink a valid routeing point for the stations north of it for any journey.

Some changes were published in the routeing guide on Wednesday.
Changes from 29 Nov 2024 (534) to 04 Dec 2024 (535).

Easement changes:

Removed:
700831 (Fare route) For journeys from or via West Ealing to or via High Wycombe using tickets priced on routes (00813) VIA GREENFORD (UND) and (00200) VIA LONDON may be used on the 11.47 direct service that runs Mondays to Fridays. This fare route easement applies only to the 11.47 through service.
This easement no longer did anything. The 11.47 is now the 11.17, and is now a bus which only runs on Wednesdays. The data for this easement identifies the service using a UID rather than a time, but the provided UID doesn't currently represent a service. I don't know when it last did.

An easement along these lines could still be useful, though. While West Ealing-West Ruislip tickets use the "any permitted" route, Slough-West Ruislip ones are all "via London" or "via Greenford".

700832 (Fare route) Journeys to and via West Ealing Mondays to Fridays, that involve interchange at South Ruislip and onward travel on the 10.55 through train between South Ruislip and West Ealing will be permitted on tickets priced on (00813) VIA GREENFORD (UND) and (00200) VIA LONDON. This fare route easement only applies to journeys using the 11.02 service
This is an easement for a train in the other direction. Nothing runs from South Ruislip to West Ealing now.

701251 (Doubleback) Fare route easement 030039 permits Journeys priced on routes (00305) VIA HIGH WYCOMBE, (00362) VIA HIGH WYC&SHR, (00363) VIA HWYC & BHM, (00402) AP HIGH WYCOMBE, (00432) AP HWY & SHR to travel via Aylesbury. This easement will overcome journey planners finding a doubleback at Princes Risborough on some itineraries using these routes.
This easement allowed a double back through Princes Risborough for tickets with routes which mentioned travel via High Wycombe, although the data never showed this. It's gone now in any case.

These three were temporary easements which affected dates in November.

Added:

701297 (Routeing Point) Customers travelling from Dunbar to Thurso may travel via Edinburgh. This routeing point easement will overcome NFM64 fares checks, and apply in both directions.
The NMF64 fares between Edinburgh and Thurso are higher than the ones between Dunbar and Thurso, and the easement fixes this. The tickets all use the "via Aviemore" route, but that doesn't help as Aviemore also has higher NFM64 fares from Edinburgh than from Dunbar.

Changed (added sections in red, removed ones in green):

030039 (Fare route) Journeys priced on routes (00305) VIA HIGH WYCOMBE, (00362) VIA HIGH WYC&SHR, (00363) VIA HWYC & BHM, (00364) CH & TFW ONLY, (00402) CH & CONNECTIONS, (00432) CH & CON VIA SHR and (00435) AP CH AND TFW ONLY may travel via Aylesbury during engineering work closures on 04/01/2025, 05/01/2025, 11/01/2025, 12/01/2025, 08/02/2025, 09/02/2025, 16/02/2025, 02/03/2025, 29/03/2025 and 30/03/2025. This Fare route easement will apply in both directions
This restricts the easement so it only operates on specific dates. Two of the route codes (00402 and 00432) now have different names (the ones 701251 used, in fact). The data doesn't include an "applies to" location for 2nd March, meaning that it won't affect has no effect then.

Looking at one of the dates, the line is due to be closed between Gerrards Cross and Princes Risborough on 4th January, so this easement lets someone with a "via High Wycombe" ticket travel between London Marylebone and Oxford Parkway without catching a bus.

The easement doesn't apply to any London-Oxford or London-Banbury tickets (for instance), and any journey at least as far as Bicester North needs a bus (or walk) from Bicester Village to Bicester North at the minimum. nre.co.uk didn't show London Marylebone-Aylesbury-Princes Risborough-Bicester Village-Bicester North-Birmingham Moor Street as being a valid route for a London-Birmingham ticket when I tried it, but I don't know why at present.

It also looks like someone has typoed the dates for the backing data as the start periods are all (but one) dates in 2005, lasting until the intended date in 2025.
