May well have been mentioned already but I was quite surprised that the new H&C train I was on the other day featured one of those line diagrams from July with all the Olympic venues and stations marked out.

There's a few of them running around with those maps. In fact don't think I've seen one in service with a non Olympic map.

The issue is at Baker Street, not Wembley per se. Someone appears to have forgotten to check with drivers whether they were happy to drive the extra train length of track each way.
The original plan was for Circle and Hammersmith line T/Ops to take the trains all the way to Wembley Park. Neither the RMT nor Aslef were happy with this, so Aslef proposed an alternative which involved Met T/Ops taking over from C&H T/Ops on the Met line platforms at Baker Street. RMT are still unhappy about this however.

Not a case of "forgotten to check" - believe me there are plenty of working groups and meetings about this - but it was always going to be difficult.

When the S7 goes to Northfields this will not be for daily usage and merely storage, so will be driven by a Test Train Operator and there will be no issues here. Not sure who will take the S7s into/out of Ealing Common when they start turning up there.

Seriously? On what possible grounds can the union object?

Strewth, it's like a 1970s sitcom! Haven't they got better things to do...?

Like protect their members conditions of service you mean?

We all know if this one gets in then management will have driver changes taking place anywhere and everywhere, there are agreements in place (you know that everyone agreed to) but management want to change the working practices to suit themselves.

But then it is just that nasty Bob Crow (no E on the end) being awkward isnt it!

Maybe certain office workers don't understand the concept of starting and finishing work at 40 miles away from each other...?
Maybe office workers aren't as well paid...

But anyway, that wasn't mentioned the article that Mojo linked to. Merely that the union is telling Circle/H&C drivers not to drive trains to Neasden Depot or on to platforms 2/3 at Baker Street.

If that's not the case, then perhaps you would care to enlighten us?

I'm a meer Engineer, I keep out of all these union things since Engineering isn't unionised... (No-one would care if all projects where a day late.)

So - as far as I'm aware - the issue is about the union not wanting drivers from one line driving trains on a different line. Which hardly sounds to me like it's an "attempt to undermine jobs and conditions". And it's far from being something that "will seriously impact on passenger and staff safety".

Unless someone would like to explain further,,,

I've been on one that didn't have Olympic maps on. Strange that there's a mix, perhaps there was a shortage?

Oh yes, I was meaning to ask, what's with the S7+1 (?) on the Met? Have all the S8 not been delivered yet and this is a stop-gap, or is it still being tested there for some reason?

Typical, say I've only seen S7 with Olympic maps then I see one without!

Question.

What chance is there, that all S stock can perhaps one day, be converted over to 8 car sets?

Would there be anywhere on the network, where you can not fit an 8 car set?

If so, then how easy would it be to extend the tracks at those locations?

There are many places where the 7 car sets do not currently fit, and the front/rear doors do not open. With another car added it would mean the trains stopped for a long time at those stops so people could walk down the carriage and a half or so needed! So not worth it at the moment.

The fact that the platforms have not been extended probably shows how easy (or how expensive) it would be to extend the platforms!

As an aside, here's a picture of an S7 on the closed District line from this weekend whilst integration testing was being carried out :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/0causton0/9051894919/

Thanks for that photo.

While it would cause delays to have more carriages, the only real issue is if sidings are too short and the rear carriage fouls the likes of points and crossings etc.

I did catch something somewhere that the Hammersmith area, the sidings can only handle 7 car trains, an 8 car would block points, and thus would block other trains.

TFL could lengthen some platforms, and encourage those passengers to use only those carriages.

Perhaps they could have the front, hang over the front end of the platform, to reduce the overhang at the rear?

This will occur at Paddington, Bayswater and Notting Hill Gate where the first 2 & last 2 doors will remain closed.
At Gloucester Road pfm1/2, Sloane Square pfm2, Temple, Cannon Street, Monument, just 1 front or rear door will remain closed.
At West Kensington EB 2 rear doors will remain closed.

Other locations on the bottom side of the Circle Line will see some form of SDO when S7s start operating at the end of August, certainly until the C/D Stock platform equipment is removed.

Any updates which S7 units are in passenger service ?

Including the 3 S7+1 units, I've seen all up to 21341+21342, except 21303+21304 and 21337+21338 in service.

How many of the peak H&C trains are now S7 stock?

I haven't seen any C stock for a while, so are they all now S7?
