No, although that doubtless makes a beautiful noise too. It/they is/are a very ancient organisation that is especially popular at Christmas

If I'm right, "Spatz" is the German for sparrow. A choir, affiliated to the cathedral, who specialise in jolly, "chirpy" songs / carols ??

Afternoon all,
We’ve had concerns raised to the Quizmaster team that the current set of questions raised are too niche and as a result are putting off some players from partaking in the game.
I’m happy for the questions posed by LSWR Cavalier to run for the rest of play today, but the floor will open for a new question to be set at 8am tomorrow morning
Thanks very much

I just got out my copy of the European Train Timetable 2001 (Thomas Cook), there are lots of named trains, but who (what were the people noted for) or what were these trains named after? There is usually some geographical connection too, often the train serves the place where the famous person lived

1 Elbflorenz
2 Caspar David Friedrich
3 Porta Nigra
4 Regensburger Domspatzen
5 Claus Stortebeker
6 Theodor Mommsen
7 Hans Boeckler
8 Hoellental
9 Otto Lilienthal
10 Strelasund
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Thanks very much, I do worry about setting questions that are too easy or too difficult

Here are some clues

1 train named after a great city on the Elbe
2 Caspar David Friedrich came from an area known for narrow-gauge steam
5 Claus Stortebeker was a dubious 'hero'
10 Strelasund calls at a town with a similar name, in the same area as (1)

3 Porta Nigra is a black gate in Trier, of roman origin

Just a reminder that the floor opens for a new Railway General Knowledge question to be set very shortly… I’m sure @LSWR Cavalier will be happy to take any further guesses on their current set of questions via Conversation if you’d like to!

Happy quizzing!

OK - it's time for the Anchors puzzle - where are or were the following GB railway locations and which pre-grouping railway served each one?

Anchor Basin
Anchor Bay
Anchor Brick Works
Anchor Bridge
Anchor Patent Fuel Works
Anchor Wharf
Anchor Pit

Not sure how to give clues without giving the answers! Here goes:

Anchor Basin - was not long ago suggested as a location for a prison ship
Anchor Bay - opposite Coldharbour Point
Anchor Brick Works - not far from Eureka Park
Anchor Bridge - over Croston Road
Anchor Patent Fuel Works - the fuel was a mixture of coal dust and pitch baked into 22lb bricks - home of the locomotive pictured below
Anchor Wharf - site of a famous ropery and spinning room, now part of a museum

Ten degrees east of north, you can tell I am not looking at the map :) I know Plymouth is about 220 miles from London, so it could be Holyhead?

I reckon that ten degrees east of north from Plymouth takes the line through Merseyside.
You are both heading more or less in the right direction - it's a little west of Merseyside and a bit further north - think of a port which is rather remote and might be thought suitable for a prison ship.
