In the 12th century, Little Urswick was within the Liberty of Furness, which belonging to Stephen of Blois, who later granted it to Furness Abbey. The Abbey is located in the 'Vale of Nightshade', south of the town of Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria.

Bewdley, Worcestershire, is also the "location town" of a superior-zoo-type establishment with "Safari" in its title.

The only Church in England to be dedicated to Saint Eata, Bishop of Hexham, can be found in the village of Atcham.

The English countryman, author and television presenter Phil Drabble OBE (1914 – 2007) lived in Bloxwich. He and his wife Jess purchased 90 acres of neglected ancient woodland in Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire, a remnant of the Needwood Forest, where they built a Nature Reserve.
