Piddington, Oxfordshire, is also very close indeed to the border of a neighbouring county.

Location
A semi-rural part of north-west England
Rules:
  • Repeating any of the previous three clues or names of settlements in a link is forbidden (you can of course quote a previous post)
  • Associations provided should be clearly dissimilar to each of the previous three associations.
  • Settlements may be anywhere in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland (Éire), Isle of Man and The Channel Islands.
  • A description of the association should be incorporated in each posting, without simply posting the name only.

It might be an opportune time for the quiz rules to be shown....especially the emboldened one.

Weyhill also has close to it, an establishment specialising in the conservation of birds of prey.

Dymchurch -- not very far away, and in the same county -- was also reputedly in times past, a hive of smuggling activity.

Newcastle West in County Limerick, also features in a "humorous-ish" folk song.

Is any mention whatsoever of railways, allowed in this game? If so -- Kilsheelan, Co. Tipperary, had a station on the same (still open today) line, which station was also closed in 1963. If anything railway-related is forbidden: I'll withdraw this post.

The Settlement Association Quiz!

This works in exactly the same manner as the Station Association Quiz, only this thread concentrates on the thousands of inhabited locales.

Please do not make any railway-related postings on this quiz, as the Station Association Quiz has been set up to cover such matters.

Perhaps an opportune time to show what @Ivo said when he first launched this quiz many years ago.

Llanymynech, split between Powys and Shropshire, is also contiguous to an ancient intended defensive barrier between different peoples.

Charlecote, Warwickshire, also featured / was characterised by, long ago, a private preserve where "huntable" creatures obtained: hence poaching problems -- at the Warwickshire location, reputedly contributed to by none other than the young William Shakespeare.
