Corfe Castle

Southam was granted a Royal Charter by Ethelred the Unready, whose half-brother Edward was murdered in Corfe Castle.

Kenilworth features in the name of a stadium whose home team were relegated from the Championship in 2007. Amazingly, the same was also true of Elland.

Kenilworth Road is the home of Luton Town. Elland Road is the home of Leeds United. Two of out three isn't bad, especially considering both relegations were significant (Luton would also drop down a division the following two seasons, whereas Leeds would be out of the top two divisions for the first time.) In case you don't know, Southend were the other losers that season

Bristol (Judd Trump), like Trowbridge (Stephen Lee) has been the home town for a talented pro snooker player.

Core cities - is that those that Apple have offices in ?

Very droll....:D

The eight cities in alphabetic order are:-

Birmingham (for the West Midlands)
Bristol (for South-West England)
Leeds (for the northern parts of Yorkshire and The Humber)
Liverpool (for the western part of North-West England)
Manchester (for the eastern part of North-West England)
Newcastle (for North-East England)
Nottingham (for the East Midlands)
Sheffield (for the southern parts of Yorkshire and The Humber)

The organisation was first established in 1995.

However....Manchester is still the place with which to make the next association.

As with the Station game, I do not see how the most recent entry is valid? Just saying "Check outside the station" is not of much use to those of us that are not local. The Metrolink is a tram system which has no current or planned routes into Bolton. Please clarify your answer!

Manchester is also one of the eight members of the English Core Cities Group.........these are regional group area affiliations that are outside the "London and South-East" administered areas and all these eight cities are also members of the pan-European Eurocities Network.

That's usually my kind of association! ;) Of course I knew about the Core Cities Group; I have referred to it several times before now.

It is a town in the Manchester Metro area.

I agree with this, if you mean that Bolton is one of the 10 areas that make up "Greater Manchester"....but not with what your previous posting said about Bolton being part of the Manchester Metrolink system, which has stations at Radcliffe and Bury Interchange as being the nearest to Bolton.....at the time of writing.

Gloucester (like Bolton) declared itself for the Parliamentary Cause during the English Civil War.

Fishbourne should not be confused with Fishbourne in the Ile of Wight, where the Ferries from portsmouth go.
I wonder if anyone driving to Portsmouth for the Ferry has ever been confused by this? I bet someone has.
(Will this lead to a controversy over the Rules? I do hope so  )

With the Station Association Quiz having gone slightly off the rails of late (pun not intended), it has been suggested that a new quiz to run in parallel to it is created. Thus, as requested by several others, I present to you all.....The Settlement Association Quiz!.....This works in exactly the same manner as the Station Association Quiz, only this thread concentrates on the thousands of inhabited locales throughout Great Britain (for sake of argument, so no Northern Ireland please) instead of their railway stations..

I cannot see from this extract of the rules why your last entry should be queried.

Back on the quiz......

Southampton also has a ferry service (to East Cowes) to the Isle of Wight.

The major local football club in Coventry also opened a new stadium about ten years ago.

Fishbourne should not be confused with Fishbourne in the Ile of Wight, where the Ferries from portsmouth go.

Sorry to disappoint you, but Paul is correct ;)

I think it might be time to ban answers that would pass for the Station Association game........ I'll let it go for now though, but keep this in mind.

Just thought that this reminder from early January 2012 will not go amiss at the present time.

The Romans built a fort at Ambleside (Galava) during their occupation of Britain.....as they did in the Edgbaston part of Birmingham (Metchley Fort)

Bowness (the one in Cumbria, not the one near Falkirk) is another place where you can catch a ferry across Lake Windermere

Westminster is also a city in it's own right which is often treated as merely an area of a much more well known city.

St Alban is often regarded as being the first British Martyr.
Legend holds that Julius and Aaron of Caerleon were also martyred under Diocletian.
