SVR have now announced the final Diesel Gala guest, a GWR Castle Class HST set. Good detective work earlier @TrainTrackJack
It really is going to be an excellent lineup... shame I can only do one day really! Definitely worth the money.Strange but interesting one.
For someone who has GWR HSTs stopping at my local station every hour, its not what I would’ve wanted. But no guest is ever going to appeal to everyone, so i dont have much right to speak. Asides, the SVR have gave us a brilliant lineup this year so huge credit to them.
If i had to make it better I’d have personally suggested a retired HST instead in a livery not currently available to see on the mainline eg EMT.![]()
The question is which day, given the attractions of each may be different. It really is going to be an excellent lineup... shame I can only do one day really! Definitely worth the money.
I'll be there on the Saturday, so will hopefully get most of the guests. The question is which day, given the attractions of each may be different.
Possibly not but it's a gala of diesels so everything is fair game. I'm looking forward to seeing the Castle SetIt's a sign of the times if an HST that's still active on the main line is being sent to appear at a diesel gala on a preserved railway.
I'm not sure that's what people go to these events for...
31270 and a DRS 88 confirmed for the spring diesel gala on the website
Ooh this has got me most interested! I can only go on the Sunday, but if that HST is out I will have to go for it!
Genuinely interested - would you not rather travel on an HST at design speed on the main line in passenger service as you can do currently every day? Or is the attraction having an HST on a preserved line?
Whats the attraction of seeing class 37s when you could just go to Derby? Its the novelty of seeing a HST on the SVR i guess, though i have been on Mark 3s down the line already...Genuinely interested - would you not rather travel on an HST at design speed on the main line in passenger service as you can do currently every day? Seeing the 37 from the vantage point of the front droplight is the attraction. People attend galas for the haulage, not for the view.Whats the attraction of seeing class 37s when you could just go to Derby? Key is to try and have a good variety to appeal to as many as possible.
Well some people do, to be honest unless you are in the front coach then its not like you can tell whats hauling you most of the time so i'm not bothered by that bit personally. I attend to see stuff i can't see normally. But we are all different and thats why the gala needs a variety of things as i said.Seeing the 37 from the vantage point of the front droplight is the attraction. I expect either LSL staff sent with the 47, as they have the Midland pullman, or RailAdventure, who are bringing it from Worcester Shrub Hill onwards, or GWR will send a crew and be route conducted.Purely out of interest, who will be allowed to drive the HST when it is at the SVR!
With a 37 on the front you can tell from a long way back!Well some people do, to be honest unless you are in the front coach then its not like you can tell whats hauling you most of the time so i'm not bothered by that bit personally. As for the HST, I guess they know what they are doing paying to have it visit. However, how many people will suddenly decide that they are now going to attend just because an HST is visiting?
I'm not a freeloader. I didn't say i just like to watch trains either.I'm pretty sure most people pay to attend a diesel gala for the haulage on offer. If you just want to watch the trains go past, save your money and go and stand in a field by the lineside.
A total of £185,000 is stated here (there's a graphic showing the raised amount, might not be viewable on a phone as I've just had difficulty doing so) https://svr.co.uk/survival/
But I believe this number was updated last week and a new number might be available soon.
I'm not sure, one aim of the fund to ensure there is enough money in the bank to survive next winter (well January, February, maybe March) so a nominal closing date would be the end of the year i.e. before that period.Thanks. Does the appeal have a (nominal?) closing date?
Disappointing, but not totally unexpected due to it failing it's mainline FTR.According to the BLS website the 58 has been pulled from the gala
