I think they've stopped the code. If you try to purchase it says the ticket is out of stock and tries to sell you a full price one instead.

There's a Quidco £5 bonus on a minimum ticket purchase of £25 from various sellers today as per my screenshot. Valid for the first 2000 opt-ins.

Oddly, I can get journeys just on LNER with this, but not including a short Northern connection.

Is there any way to select First class on Trip.com?
You need to select the required train, scroll to the next page and select other tickets.. there you will find first class options.

It worked for me yesterday, perhaps the fare was not available..

It seems to have expired as I'm getting this today

Which is the most reliable retailer for train ticket purchases tracking when using cashback sites Quidco or Topcashback?

A lot of the time this happens if you have a cookie from general browsing which means the cookie from the cashback site doesn't get picked up.

I use Chrome for general browsing, and then Edge for Topcashback purchases and Opera for Quidco. I don't get many Quidco and Topcashback transactions that fail to track. Where I do get transactions turned down its when I have used a voucher that they don't support.

I've used Chiltern Railways and Northern for cashback without problems.

I had that Trip.com 50% off promo saved in my account, waiting for a chance to use it.

The expiry date of 31 December, which was displayed in my saved promo codes, has been changed to last week, and the coupon has expired!

No reason to complain, since it probably wasn't meant for me, but it doesn't inspire me to use Trip in the future.

The Trip.com app feels like walking into a slot machine hall at a casino - flashing lights, bells and whistles and the promise of riches everywhere, but your senses quickly kick in to tell you it's likely all too good to be true!

(I say that, and yet I do currently have a Digital Railcard from them - it was a third off the regular price... though opening the app up to display it does kinda offend me each time!)

For anyone who hasn't booked through the Trainpal app yet, Martin Lewis's weekly MSE email gives details of signing up and entering a code to get £5 off your first ticket purchase of a minimum of £5.01. There are 10,000 codes available and a cut off date of 31/12/2024, MSE5OFF being the code and once the code is entered into your account, you have 7 days to use it by making a purchase.

All the Trainpal MSE5OFF codes appear to have been claimed already - I get an 'Out of stock' error when I try and claim one (with a newly created Trainpal account).

For what it's worth, after registering for a new account with Trainpal they do offer three discounts on train tickets that someone out there might possibly find useful (though none even vaguely close to as good as the aforementioned MSE code offer). They refer to this as a 'Welcome pack' - worth noting these discounts are only valid for 7 days after you create the account...

£6 off a minimum spend of £100
£3 off a minimum spend of £50
£1 off a minimum spend of £1.01

And for coach travel there's also £1 off a minimum spend of £15.

Going by nothing other than the general impression I get, I'd be a bit wary of having to deal with their customer service so I'd only be spending a ton or a bullseye with them if I was pretty certain I wouldn't need to amend or refund my tickets!

Just a couple of further questions regarding Uber.

1) I made a journey on Sunday 15th Dec that was credited a few days ago. Yet a similar journey made on 8th December hasn't. I'm starting to think the journey on the 8th hasn't tracked for some reason. I know there is a 60 day window, however with all previous credits being promptly applied, it does seem strange.

2) is there any way of part using earned credits?

For example, if I have £3 worth of credits, however I only wish to use £1.50 of those credits. As far as I can see, only the full amount can be used.

Is there a difference in ticket validity between the 8th & 15th tickets? Advances are credited more quickly; open tickets have to wait for the end of the period of validity.

There is an option buried within Uber help to chase Omio for credit. It's hard to find, and I got a very generic response from Omio.

Not sure of any way to use less then the full amount credit, other than switching off Uber Cash and waiting until you have a smaller transaction.

8th was a Sunday Out ticket. 15th was a Sunday Out Travelcard, using same route.

That will come in useful as I need to get a Network Railcard for discounting of TfL Travelcards as my gold card runs out tomorrow and it's not worth the ~ £200 to buy a new one
Remember you can purchase a railcard for £10 with a Gold Card.

Some GWR advance tickets will be sold at half price between 2nd and 9th January, for travel between 10th January and 13th April.

100,000 standard-class seats and 50,000 First-Class seats will be on offer.

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but Merseyrail are offering a £2 day ticket for travel at weekends. The offer starts on Saturday 4 January 2025 and ends on Sunday 26 January 2025. The publicity mentions this has been funded through claiming money back from Stadler, who produced the 777's.

More information available here. https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/news/mayor-launches-unlimited-travel-on-merseyrail-for-just-£2-during-weekends-in-january/

The special weekend offer will start on Saturday, January 4, and end on Sunday, January 26, with tickets for children aged 5-15 costing just £1.

The reduced-price tickets have been paid for by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority from funds recovered from train manufacturer Stadler. They are available on all Merseyrail lines.

It will allow passengers to travel across the region for a fraction of the normal fare.
