In BR Fares, you can find out if your desired journeys will be in the sale by looking out for the following:

RailSale OffPKR - Standard Class Off Peak (including Day) Return
Rail Sale Adv S - Standard Class Advance
Rail Sale Adv 1 - First Class Advance
Some 'bargain' prices from Banbury to Birmingham New Street!!:lol:

Lucky me I can get a Rail Sale Adv S from Scunthorpe to Manchester for £9,998! If I risk it and pose as a child I can get that down to £4,999. What a load of St Rollox that is.
I think it's the temporary way they get put into the database until they're available...

While it doesn't beat the Amex offer, my NatWest rewards is currently showing 8% back for LNER. My Barclaycard rewards is showing 5%.

Chiltern's sale terms and conditions say 20,000 Great British Rail Sale tickets will be available from £5 each way between Marylebone and Islip / Kings Sutton and further west. 10:00 on 14 January 2025 until all Rail Sale Tickets have been sold or 23:59 on 20 January 2025, whichever is sooner.

https://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/rail-sale-2025-terms-and-conditions

2.4 Tickets from £5 one-way available for the Promotional Period on Chiltern Railway direct services in both direction between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill, Birmingham Moor Street, Banbury, Dorridge, Kings Sutton, Leamington Spa, Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon, Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway, Warwick, Warwick Parkway.

2.5 Tickets from £5 one-way available for the Promotional Period on Chiltern Railway direct services in both direction between London Marylebone, Oxford, Oxford Parkway and Islip.

c2c: 50% off of full-price off-peak returns. There isn't a mention of route availability, but I'd assume no discounts on journeys entirely within the Oyster area.

I've just managed to bag Banbury to Coventry (22nd Mar) and Banbury to Birmingham New St (29 Mar) - All XC advance fares - for £3.80 each way. Total £7.60 return.

With a Reading to Banbury (Network Railcard) ticket for £10.90, total cost is £18.50 return for both trips. This price is less than what I paid last year for a trip to Birmingham on XC (£21.30).

I'm guessing this price won't be bettered in the forthcoming GB Rail Sale?

I found https://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/govia...-january-2024-great-british-rail-sale-3298317 with a Google Search for "Great British Rail Sale" "2025"
The Department for Transport has issued the press release below under embargo.

As set out in the DfT press release, we’ve changed the dates slightly on which the discounted journeys can be made to help manage the reduced capacity that will operate during the period of industrial action; whilst still ensuring people can make the most of the savings.

Therefore, from Tuesday 23 January to Monday 29 January we will be selling the following GBRS tickets for journeys made from Wednesday 7 February up to and including Friday 15 March 2024:

  • Southern Advance tickets on selected journeys where these tickets are normally available, with the normal restrictions
  • On Great Northern and Thameslink Off-Peak Day Return fares from our stations outside London Zones 1-6 to London Terminals (or London Thameslink if that option is not available), with the same time restrictions as the full priced tickets
Some examples:

  • Save £22.50 from journeys into London and back from King’s Lynn
  • Save £17.90 on journeys into London and back from Bedford
  • Save £15.10 from journeys into London and back from Cambridge

Similarly, the example price given for Newcastle – Carlisle is £6 when I can fairly regularly find advance tickets for ~£2.15 with a railcard.

Did Grand Central take part in previous GBRSs, given its seeming inclusion this time? (https://www.grandcentralrail.com/sale and Grand Central Rail Sale Advances for King's Cross – Sunderland in BR Fares)

If someone holds a national railcard, then the sale is less beneficial. However, the good thing is being able to combine both, to get very good value for money.

I'm fairly sure railcards don't apply to the sale.

They didn't last year, although I did manage to get Railcard-reduced fare PlusBus tickets to accompany them, so that aspect of Railcards still applied.
Well yes, they're completely separate tickets!

“From 14 to 20 January 2025, selected advance and off-peak fares will go on sale at up to 50% off for travel between 17 January and 31 March 2025.”

“This year’s rail sale will offer over 2 million discounted advance fares starting on 14 January 2025, which is a great way to save on your travel and celebrate 200 years of railway connections.”

All the examples given seem to be Advance fares, yet the claim is that some Off-peak fares will also be discounted. How is that going to work?

I think it's flows without advance tickets available which will have off-peak sale tickets, like c2c journeys.

In some cases, two identical journeys may be covered by more than one flow. For instance - you can have one EMR passenger travelling from Bedford to St Pancras (and back) with an Any Permitted Off Peak Day Return to London Thameslink, and another (on the very same trains) with a pair of EMR Only Advances to/from London Terminals; break of journey isn't even invoked (arguably) since St Pancras belongs to both destination groups.
