Yes.

I did enquire before I went ahead with purchasing a new Railcard with Delay Repay travel vouchers.

I always assumed that Delay Repay vouchers were in effect returned cash to be spent on any rail related purchase from a TOC. Although you don't get change.

I was lucky to have the right number to leave me 4p off the total.

If you do pay with Delay Repay travel vouchers, be sure to date them and write 'Railcard Purchase' on the back of each one.

Otherwise, you'll be made to do this at the ticket office window.
Just be careful marking vouchers in advance. If for any reason they won't scan or the booking office can't or won't accept them it's best to be left with an unmarked voucher to use next time.

Assuming you buy it valid from 1 December (just to make the sums easy) then it will expire 30 November next year. Assuming your current card expires 1 July (the most favourable case for my sums here) that means you get essentially 5 months extra validity for your £15 - so £3 per month of extra validity

A quick google suggests that railcards are going up to £35. If that's the case and you renew at that rate you will get 12 months of use for £35 i.e. £2.92 per month.

For your particular case, it's not worth it. For someone whose railcard expires on (say) 1 June, it might be worth it (£15/6 months extra validity = £2.50 per month).
Actually it occurs to me that maybe now is a good time to renew your annual railcard. The reason is I could bet that there are more discounts at this time of year than in the height of summer. So if you renew now then every year you will pick up a discount every dull miserable winter instead of being tied into a peak happy season renewal time.

Unsure if it’s an error or a future promo but seen the code “UK50OFF” advertised on a coupon site (couponfollow.com) for the Trip.com app (same company as TrainPal unfortunately). Thought I would add it to my account to see out of curiosity if it was offering anything.. and it was showing 50% off LNER tickets in December… too good to be true I thought?! Well I’ve just got an off peak single from South Gyle to Crawley on 30th Dec for £46.50 (50% off and used another promo code for an extra 4% off).. price on the ticket is £101.10. It doesn’t work with split tickets so you need to make sure you aren’t choosing that option. Picked up the tickets already from the station.

Can confirm it's worked for me buying Super Off Peak singles from London to York, and when stacked with a 10% cashback Amex offer it makes for a very cheap flexible ticket.

EDIT: The ticket was for travel in January.

At least you have been sensible to get it as a paper ticket (even though it's for cross-London so wouldn't had the ability as an e-ticket). Just in case the retailer cancels the ticket when someone notices they made a mistake.

Strangely, putting in Leeds and Manchester Victoria to Ashington works, as long as you pick a journey which involves a LNER service between York and Newcastle, but it doesn't even show up journeys for York or Darlington to Ashington.

This offer looks good - don't like paper tickets though but maybe necessary to ensure they aren't cancelled. Shame that it looks to be one per user though.

How are Trip.com with changes to tickets / cancellations please? Seems they have a guarantee in place for when it isn't the customers fault (disruption etc.) (as required by NRCoT), but couldn't find anything about admin fees etc. Thanks

Does anyone know if Uber's promo: '30% off your next five trips. Up to £4 per trip', applies to rail bookings too?

If so, another good offer on their app.

I have just had a look at this on the Coupon Follow site.

It does not specifically mention LNER tickets, but ALL tickets.

Is this a one time use code, or can it be used multiple times?

It’s the standard £5 admin fee for refundable tickets. If you’ve collected the tickets already then you need to mail these in before the refund is processed (it’s an Edinburgh address). Just to note my first train booking on the app came with a “No Fees” special offer for cancellations / changes, it was automatically added on. As I hadn’t collected the tickets already the refund was processed straight away and back on my card within 48hrs.

One use only - if you try to add the promo code a second time it says it’s already been used. The T&Cs when added to the app mention “all direct routes operated by LNER”. Though it seems to work with any itinerary that involves an LNER train at some point. Mine was South Gyle to Crawley so a combination of ScotRail, LNER, London Underground and Southern.

Oooooh, I am seeing a London-Leeds Intercity 225 journey for £20.57 in First Class. The discount stacks with my railcard too so that's even better. Definitely going to book it!

Thanks @cstewa38. Registered the code. Just trying to work out how to make the best use of it.

Ideally I’d like a London-Newcastle return.

You have Trip.com in your Amex Offers? Which card is this on?

I've just had a nose at Trip.com to see how I could make use of that code. I was hoping to possibly purchase a 'standard out, first return' on a journey from Stevenage to Edinburgh, but it seems Trip doesn't allow this. They only have options for both directions in standard or both in first.

I guess I'll have to wait until the government's 'Great British Rail Sale' in January if I wish to take the 'standard out, first return' option.

Found first class lner tickets, although it's not easy as you have to scroll through and select other tickets.. but 50% off is probably better than any government rail sale...

From a previous thread (post 4), First Class tickets from Newcastle to Leeds and Edinburgh were apparently available for £6 in the 2022 Great British Rail Sale.

Yes but that was TPE not LNER and a lot has changed since 2022, the DF transport are increasing tight fisted it appears...

Northern and TPE have had £1 sales in the last year (I can't remember the last time LNER specifically had a major sale, but it's also one of the ones where passenger numbers compared to 2019 are on the better side), although admittedly such good deals for first class are probably less likely.

I get this:
1733354416772.png
Item out of stock, price has changed
And then the price doubles!

Any ideas how to get around this?

I wouldn't normally bother with Trip.com as I don't trust them, but if the offer is as good as claimed, I may as well buy one ticket from them...

I can't see any mention of First Class tickets in that thread.

I think I thought by First TransPennine Express they meant First Class tickets for TPE rather than tickets for TPE, run by First.

As @ScotTrains said, it's on my BA Amex (free one).
Thanks. Nothing for Trip on any of my Amex cards. I do have a whopping 1% on my MBNA though!

I also have 9% at Virgin Trains Ticketing on my Virgin card, and 8% on my Barclays debit. (Once only, for both)

And 12% widely on Amex at LNER, valid every time.

Eurostar Double & Triple points promo has just arrived in my inbox.

Book by 23 Dec
Travel between 15 Jan and 15 Apr on UK or Continental routes.

– Eurostar Standard gets double points, so 2.4 points per £ instead of 1.2
– Eurostar Plus (Standard Premier in old money) gets triple points, so 3.6 per £

I don’t know if the tier bonuses are doubled/ tripled too. Existing bookings don’t count.

I think a fair valuation of Eurostar points ~8p each, so this is close to a 29% rebate in Plus.

I don't see any rules in the T&Cs which says you have to book direct, so presumably you could book with Uber. The offer does appear to be limited to people who are already registered with Club Eurostar, and opted into promotions.

Oddly, I can get journeys just on LNER with this, but not including a short Northern connection.

Is there any way to select First class on Trip.com?
