Another milestone, SMA 6 authorised for passenger use from 1400 today, has been running without passengers since 1205 yesterday.

Roll onto 18/19 March for commissioning of SMA 7.

Hammersmith 17A/17B points to be decommisioned night of 16 February, gradual removal until 18 March 2023.
This now completes the segregation of District and Piccadilly lines between Acton and Hammersmith.

Successful testing of CBTC SMA 9 area (Preston Road-West Harrow/Moor Park) last Sunday 5 February.
With trains running ATO and also using the new colour light signalling on the main line from Harrow-Moor Park.
An S8 was used to represent a Chiltern train, which are not CBTC fitted. On the next test a 165/168 will also be present.
New signal posts show red or blue to CBTC fitted trains and red or green to non-communicating others. Repeating signals are provided with usual green or yellow aspects.

Very exciting. Sorry if this has been answered already, but do the new colour light overlay signals incorporate ATP/TPWS or do they have trainstops?

Would Chiltern drivers be instructed to treat a blue aspect as Danger?
Chiltern or other non-CBTC fitted train wouldn’t see a blue aspect, as they couldn’t communicate with the CBTC system.
Blue only confirms the vehicle is communicating with the system, not an authority to proceed.

I'm the extremely unlikely event of a wrong side failure I'm sure Chiltern drivers would treat a signal with a blue aspect as a signal with no aspect.

I noticed yesterday that the new next train indicators at Earl's Court stated: "Edgware Road trains run every 10 minutes but will only be displayed here 5 minutes before arrival"
I assume that is because the signalling hasn't been upgraded past West Brompton yet so the displays only have limited data to display.

Fulham Broadway.
should be partially resolved when CBTC is extended to East Putney, with enabling work already happening on that section.

That's the reason why! Had always wondered why at Earls Court it will only show the Edgware Road close to departure. Is this section south of Fulham Broadway the one one that should be going live in March?

Will all be going when CBTC arrives, along with the sole occupant of Earl’s Court Control Room when Parsons Green/Putney Bridge is complete.

Is this just a simple systems change or is there any improvements such as speeds / capacity?

There will be the usual remapping of the speed profile. Whether this leads to much of an improvement overall is a matter of significant debate, as some speeds go up and others come down. Likewise in terms of capacity. Obviously what it does do is remove the inconsistency caused by different driving styles (aka one slow driver holding up a string of trains!).

Acceleration uncapped in ATO mode 0 to 45mph in 33 seconds vs 48 seconds previously.
Top speed of 56mph (90kph) on most outdoor sections east of Bromley by Bow

I have now recorded a few runs under full ATO. Westbound Upminster to West Ham the total sum of fastest recorded ATO times recorded is 20min 06 seconds compared with 22mins 27 seconds for the fastest recorded manually driven times. That is a potential time saving of almost 2.5 minutes. All down to faster acceleration and higher top speeds on most sections. ATO braking rates are slower than achieved by many drivers so the time improvements due to the faster acceleration and top speed include a small amount of time lost under braking. The real difference is when you average out the manually driven times over a number of runs and compare them to average ATO times. Then the difference is really noticeable. Average manual driving times are almost 23 minutes over the same section.
The timetable schedules 28.5 minutes including dwell times. So twelve stations with a scheduled dwell time of 20 seconds would add four minutes to the running time. So 24 to 25 mins achievable on dry rails with no trains too close ahead. Looks like Barking and West Ham stops may allow for greater dwell times than just 20 seconds. And it isn't clear how much 'recovery time is built in to the timetable for delays or degraded running.

The latest TfL Board papers have lots of updates on the 4Line resignalling with updates on SMA8 (Finchley Road - Preston Road), SMA9 and SMA13 (Metropolitan line), SMA 10 (Barons Court - Stamford Brook), SMA12 (Fulham Broadway -East Putney), SMA14 Metropolitan with Piccadilly to Uxbridge)

Just to be clear...as far as I can tell from the Programmes and Investment Committee papers (that Snow1964 was referring to) this is seeking procurement authority to increase the value of the ATC contract which is part of the Four Lines Modernisation project and was originally let to Thales in July 2015.

What was Ealing Radio Island, sorry? I read the report but couldn't see a description
It would’ve allowed District trains to test CBTC was communicating within Ealing Common depot before entering out onto the running line and failing to migrate at Stamford Brook boundary.

Thank you. So what's likely to happen if this radio island isn't happening? Will we see an increased risk of problems when trains reach this boundary? Or is the island not happening because the risk is low enough to be deemed acceptable?

There is an increased risk although since commissioning there have been few problems at Barons Court boundary.
