Carnforth station was opened in 1846 by the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway, and became a junction in 1857 when the Ulverston and Lancaster Railway arrived from the northwest. One of the stations on this new line was (and still is) Grange-over-Sands.

Appleby station was the site of the unexpected death of noted railway photographer and Bishop of Wakefield, The Right Rev. Eric Treacy.

Treacy's interest in railway photography had been initiated by a pre-World War II visit to Liverpool Lime Street.

Manchester Victoria station was jointly built for the Liverpool & Manchester and the Manchester & Leeds Railways, and opened in 1844. Norwich station was also opened in 1844.

Gospel Oak is the northern terminus of the Gospel Oak to Barking Line (sometimes unofficially called the GOBLIN); the southern terminus is, unsurprisingly, Barking.
