If you're a beer lover, the Cellar Bar, Corner House & Old Harkers Arms are at the other end of City Road, just a few minutes walk away from the station
And if you love bagatelle - You've got the Bridgewater Arms, the Union Vaults, the Edge, the Cottage and St Werberghs.....all within spitting distance.....

Track and Sleeper at Knaresborough is excellent. Beer garden on the platform.
Just dropped in this afternoon for the first time in a while and spotted that they offer not only CAMRA discount, but also Railcard discount. Do any other bars offer Railcard discount on drinks?

I see that the excellent Doric Arch at Euston are advertising that they have a machine to can beers on site, so you can take your favourite tipple with you onto the train. We are travelling through Euston in a couple of weeks, so I will report back.

I enjoyed a pint of Bank Top (Bolton) Dark Mild at The Oxford Road Tap last night.

I enjoyed a pint of Bradfield (Sheffield) Farmers Stout at the Victoria Tap on Thursday night.

I approve of your choices!

My years living in Birmingham turned me into a Mild drinker.

The ale situation at the Sheffield Tap seems to have deteriorated recently.

Time was when one would be guaranteed a good light session ale of 4 - 4.5 %.

The last two times its been full of small beer (3.5%) or rocket fuel (5%+).

Come on lads, sort it out.

Not a light ale, admittedly, but I was in there yesterday while waiting for the delayed 1911 to Liverpool, on Sorsby Stout - a sessionable 4.0% My pic below as evidence.

The Citra star would be the one for me out of those.

There always used to be something along those lines whenever I went in.

I think I agree, although a well kept Jaipur (which their’s is) is a tremendous beer, but as I get older I’m starting to prefer the less strong stuff

Ooh, Jaipur is too strong for me at my age !! (probably when I were a youngster as well, truth be told)

I'd have gone for the stout. Gluten free, so a healthy option!

To be fair, I find no taste difference between a gluten free and equivalent pint. If the gluten free option most mirrors my tastes, I will take it

Beer's made of plants, so it's one of your five a day
Cider's fruit, so that counts too (and perry). Also got Vitamin C (unlike beer) - it does survive fermentation! So ideal for fending off winter colds. :E

Just planning my next cider expedition (probably next Thursday, provisionally Manchester area - not necessarily Manchester itself), railway-ish pubs including anything within about 15mins walk of a station as long as they are real ale pubs which have at least one good cider.

I spent my twenties drinking stouts and porters, however I've lost the taste for it now.
I think it is well known that as one slides into the twilight years the taste buds deteriorate. The thirst for stronger sweeter ale (Jaupur etc)
increases with age apparently. My eyes are starting to need adjustment now I'm nudging over 50 so I guess the tongue will be the next to pack up ☹️

I’m going the other way. Struggling with the strong stuff.

But apropos pubs, albeit not quite a station pub, I’ve spent most of this evening in Loch Lomond Brewery’s brewery tap, which is just across the river and less than 10 minutes walk from Renton station. Very nice

Is that the one that relocated to the outskirts of Dumbarton?

I'm told that limoncello stops you getting scurvy as well !

Lighter, sweeter ale certainly. I've found myself more drawn to the citrusy ones in recent years.

I had half an hour to kill yesterday before my train, so popped to the Three Guineas at Reading station for a quick scoop.

£7.75 for a pint of Asahi! o_O
