I had half an hour to kill yesterday before my train, so popped to the Three Guineas at Reading station for a quick scoop.

£7.75 for a pint of Asahi! o_O
That makes the £6.07 Punk IPA I'm currently enjoying feel like a bargain!

I am in Wetherspoons mind, albeit not on a station.

I had a great pint of Vanilla Stout from the Bradfield Brewery, Sheffield at the Oxford Road Tap last week. £4.30! Astounding for central Manchester.

Yesterday I took the opportunity to visit the Brewdog at Waterloo. £9 for a half of Hazy Guava beer and a half of Made in Berlin Berliner beer (a pint of each would have been £16.50 in total so bit of a markup on the halfs on top of the high initial price). Had 4 halfs of very reasonable real ales in the Wetherspoons Lion and Unicorn next door - total £7. I know which I prefer.

Also went to new Wetherspoons near Euston, The Captain Flinders which is handily located and less than £4 for a pint of real ale. I prefer it to the Doric Arch and Signal Box actually in the station. Doesn't beat the Euston Tap for beer choice. And a "reasonable for the area" £5.40 for the pint of Chocolate stout I had.

You can get a decent choice of beers in the Euston Tap for very comparable prices to the lagers in the 'Spoons there.

Ok, the cask ales in 'Spoons are generally cheaper than the stuff in the Tap, but the keg ales in the Tap compare very favourably to 'Spoons keg beers.

The cheapest pint was £5 today in the Ale Way at Axminster station. Before Covid I was paying around £2.80 but that was in the north west and Yorkshire (not Wetherspoons!)

£3.99 for a Punk IPA in the Grimsby Wetherspoons. Not technically a station pub, but it's pretty much in the car park so may as well be.

With Wetherspoons selling many of their smaller pubs, I was quite surprised how small (by their standards) The Captain Flinders is.

Elsewhere, I didn't go in but the Priory Hotel outside Dover Priory station looked decent enough.

It's not strictly in the station itself, but The Boathouse is located right on the level crossing at Wylam station and boasts 11(!) handpulls with a good spread on - worth a look!

I Like Brewdog waterloo for the slide, that being said I am a big kid at heart, although most stations in the big towns and cities will have a more wallet friendly wetherspoons nearby.

I did want to grab a pint at the station pub at Lancaster when I was passing through earlier in the week but didn't have time,

Not seen The Station Tavern at Grosmont mentioned.

I was very grateful to the landlord there one late October night a few years back who agreed to stay open after the advertised 8pm closing time even though I was his only remaining customer. The last train of the day ex Whitby was some 90+ minutes late and the conditions outside were monsoon like.

Also did a very nice steak and ale pie.

The new Chester station pub is opening for its first day of business today
I'm glad to see the space being reused. I had a little nose through the door a few weeks ago while work was still being done and it looked quite nice. I believe the owners also have a popular pub in Chester on Bridge St(?) and another in West Kirby.

The station pub in Lancaster is a very good one - especially if you like the Lancaster Brewery beers (and I do!). It's not the cheapest but still reasonable value at about £4.50 a pint (though my memories are slightly hazy as to the exact cost)...

There will be soon! WHSmith are moving into a vacant retail unit, then to old Victorian Ticket hall will be the new pub, knocked through to the unit that Smiths currently occupy!

I've often looked at that space and thought it would make a superb station pub.

In fact I've fantasised about opening one myself (if I'd had a couple of hundred thousand to spare !)

Good for them - I look forward to visiting (assuming they plan to do decent ale).

Excellent value for a station pub.

Worth a visit? Thinking of popping in later
Decent little place. Far busier than I ever remember it being in it's previous guise.

Not too bad price wise either for craft beer, just over a tenner for a pint (4.8%) and a 2/3 pint (6% Norwegian IPA).

I'll be back here for sure. They open for breakfast too, Costa should be worried if the food's as good as the beer.

I think that was for 1 & 2/3 pints, so around £6 per pint. Not cheap, but specialist craft brews never are ....
I would guess that the price of the Norwegian IPA was a bit higher.
For two drinks!

I'd have walked out of that'd been for one, don't worry!
If you're horrified by that you're fortunate to be drinking in a cheap area. £5 to £6 a pint isn't unusual across much of the country.

I meant if it were £10 a pint I'd have walked out.

I'm well used to paying £5/6 a pint for lager, never mind craft beers.
