Firefighters are dealing with the derailment of a [Glasgow] to Oban train in which two carriages are hanging over a 15-metre embankment.

Firefighters based at Oban are working to gain access to the carriages and there is currently no report about the condition of passengers.

An emergency call from a passenger reporting the derailment was received just before 2100 BST.

The fire service said there was a "major deployment of fire crews".
Looks like it may have happened somewhere near Falls of Cruchan.

There are reports of "minor injuries", at least one coach of the Class 156 is "completely off the road" and down the embankment. It is also reported that "everyone is off the train".

Oh dear that sounds awful. I hope all the passengers and train crew are okay.

Sounds pretty bad, I just saw it on the news. It's a coincidence too, I was wondering when the next major train crash would happen.

Hope nobody is too badly hurt.

Just heard it on Radio 4, mistakenly saying that it was at Tyndrum Lower rather than Falls of Cruchan [edited]. Sounds nasty! This is, I believe, both cars of a 2-car 156. If that drops down a 50ft embankment, it will not be pleasant. It's also at a fairly remote location as well. I haven't seen any pictures yet, but maybe we'll find out what caused it at some point.

It's not at Tyndrum Lower.

Quite right (will amend the other post), but that was what the BBC said. Perhaps someone should put them right. Still, Falls of Cruchan is an even more remote spot.

down the embankment? dont talk wet, it is not, 499 should be the one involved

As he's put that in quotation marks, he's obviously just reporting what he's read or heard, so it's not him who's 'talking wet'. If you've got any better intel, why not just say?

I've no idea what "talking wet" means; I assume you are using it to be insulting.

Do you know what a quote is?

The quote is from a member of FSR staff. He may be wrong. It's not my claim, it is what is, as I said "reported". What is reported may, or may not, be accurate.

BBC are still saying the train is from Edinburgh. It isn't; it's from Glasgow.

Well, they must have changed their page very quickly, because it's now from Glasgow (as is correct).

This sounds like a very serious incident, but let's remember that there have been no deaths or serious injuries; only walking wounded. So we should at least be thankful. TO be honest, from what I've heard so far, it sounds slightly miraculous that there's been nothing more serious.

The BBC 10pm news just said it was from Glasgow but if you visit the BBC news site it says the train was from Edinburgh !!! Odd....

They have yet to say what derailed it and caused the fire. Luckily no-one was hurt :)

Indeed, thank goodness for that. On a less serious note, thats us a unit down. If it is seriously damaged by fire and the derailment , what are the chances of it being repaired?

Come on folks, please stick to facts.
There are fire appliances deployed. That does NOT imply that there is a fire (those guys have expertise in rescue ops).

The other facts we have for sure is the train ID and the very helpful knowledge that the derailled train is not close to any shops. Great!

major incident unit from Clydebank and heavy rescue vehicle from Easterhouse.
But no SERIOUS INJURIES which is good to know considering the reports coming in!

As far as I'm aware, is it the A82 that runs alongside the line?

We also know that it happened at 21.00

At this time of year they would have had daylight until 22.30 there. Makes a difference.

A spokesman has said it is on fire, i know it may not be gospel though.

What is it then?
BTP said:
"All passengers have been safely taken off the train, but the leading car remains overhanging the road.
Or are BTP also wrong?

My sources are BTP, FSR staff.

What is your source?

Sky News says the train was going to Oban. Semms it was definetly combing from Glasgow then.

Sorry to hear, glad it sounds like nobody badly hurt.

I wish at a time like this the media would remind us that rail is still the safest way to travel (on comparable journeys) rather than whip up hysteria though
