Its 196 101
ThanksIts 196 101
It isn't beautiful but the black front does improve it as the orange and yellow didn't go together that well. From the images I have seen, 196101 has now reverted back to the black front, a backwards step IMHO as the 196 series certainly is ugly and the black front doesn't help its appearance.
I agree that they really are quite ugly! From the images I have seen, 196101 has now reverted back to the black front, a backwards step IMHO as the 196 series certainly is ugly and the black front doesn't help its appearance.

The rather ugly WMR livery does not help.
I reckon they'd look fine with a full either black or yellow end TBH.
I personally think the black gangway suits them better - the yellow gangway ruined its look in all honesty.
Out on test yesterday as seen in other videos appearing too brakes are load at the moment.
Engine wise it sound like a 172 when it pulled off in person if you can't hear in the video.I think that’s standard with the CAF Civity units - never heard a Northern 195/331 unit without a loud braking noise.
I believe that’s because they have a very similar powertrain setup. They both share a ZF mechanical transmission whilst the 196 has a more powerful version of the MTU engine in the 172.Engine wise it sound like a 172 when it pulled off in person if you can't hear in the video.

New train brakes often squeak for quite a while.
I suspect the inherent ride of the 196s will be little different unless CAF have made changes to the suspension design of the Citivies - the ride quality seems to be a feature common across CAF stock in general in the UK. Where there may be difference however is the ride quality when seated, since WMR have selected a seat design (FISA Lean if I recall) that offers more padding than the seating used in the 195/331s.I know the livery is divisive but I think it looks great. The units look good too. I hope they’ll avoid the ride quality issues seen in Northerns 195s
Love the look of these units - the livery suits them perfectly.
Is it still just the 4 units that have so far been handed over to WMT?
Also, I notice in those great pics above that we have coach numbers 124004 and 122004 - does anyone know how the other coaches are numbered please?
1211xx (DM with accessible area/blue doors) 1221xx (M) 1231xx (M) 1241xx (DM with cycle area/green strip on doors)
Superb, thanks Dom (just realised I put 122004 and 124004 in my post when I meant 104 - I've amended it now to avoid potential confusion).
Might be pushing my luck a bit now, but would you happen to know the coach numbers on the 2 cars as well please?
Thanks in advance
I don't, that was just me reading them off a video! I would expect 1210xx and 1240xx though (which could probably be more generically done as 121xxx and 124xxx as the /0s are the 2 cars and /1s are the 4 cars)
