Does anyone happen to know what is the meaning of a bright blue sign showing "GSM-R" with a 3 large digits underneath is?

I spotted a few at Gloucester. I'd upload an image but I can't figure out how to do one in a profile post

They are a GSM-R registration code. The symbol you see next to the wording is the same as the symbol the GSM-R keypad for registration.

Generally speaking, the code is the last 3 digits of the signal number, with 0s added in if the signal has a short number (Say M23 for example, in which case the code would be 023).

They are meant to be where signal plates can't be viewed very clearly from where the cab would be, but they seem to be everywhere, including where there is no problem with reading the number on the signal plate.
If you want cheaper tickets Taunton-Padd, try looking up tickets to beyond London that involve a cross-London transfer. They can be considerably cheaper than a ticket to Pad.

If i did that i would end up using the full length of the ticket first before going back to London

Haha no I was not paid to write that, but wish I was. It is great place isn’t it? Shame I have to travel from the other end of the county to get there
NLCs: If you are in the rail industry let me have your work e-mail address and I will send you a spreadsheet that lists all of them.
Thank you very much to the fantastic member of staff in my local ticket office this morning who patiently went through and booked me reservations on several trains for a journey I want to make shortly - despite them not being the ones that appear in the journey planners for that journey, and despite me not explaining what I wanted very clearly!
Birthday number 29 today....It will be the big "3 0" next time... :p

At least the weather has been kind for you.

Hi RGD7, are you currently a conductor at northern? As I have applied for the conductor apprenticeship and would like some more info on the role and shift patterns if possible?

What does a typical shift consist of? How many rest days do you get ? And can you work them ?

Can’t agree with you more. Rubbish weather adds to it - it’s been awful in Manchester lately.

The late evening Cross Country Glasgow Central - Edinburgh uses this route

Does anyone know if the 2048 Cross Country Service from Glasgow Central still goes via the Edinburgh Suburban Freight Only Line to Edinburgh Waverley ?

@ASlater

Shotts on the weekend, Suburban on weekdays.

Do you know where I can reliably time a class 357 or 387/3 to 75mph on the c2c network? Thanks!

Yeah of course I plan to go both directions several times to try to get a driver that doesn't delay the power, on a dry day.

Leigh to Benfleet and Barking to Upminster are places I find myself cruising at 75 for extended periods most often

Thanks for the info
The forum is certainly getting a good bit of extra traffic from this 80x withdrawal saga...

Probably not worth a full thread for this so I'll ask here: am I correct that on Bank Holidays off-peak tickets are valid all day, like Saturdays and Sundays?

Usually but it depends on the specific ticket. Some tickets do have restrictions that apply on Saturday and Sunday.
