Hey Mabs,

Can you give me some advice on the role play please?

Thank you

B
Hi there, although I have now retired, the attached is a commonly used 12 hour roster for a 24/7 position (This was in a PSB), but gives an idea, and it is quite liked by those that work it.
But HR don't like it as there a 4 nights, they would rather there was only 2 then a rest day, or 2 rest days, then days.

Deeply distressing to see the Government have gone back on their promise to ban LGBTQ+ conversion therapy.

Then again, i’m not surprised.

While it is good to see they have made another u-turn, the exclusion of trans people is deeply concerning.

But like you I cannot say I am surprised.
Hi mate, just saw your post regarding your first few weeks with Northern. I start tomorrow with the 2 day induction. Any tips/ advice you can share from your first few weeks?
I’ve got a real good impression of the company so far and your post also reassured me. Seem to be really good to work for and employees are well looked after.

Hi mate,

Apologies I have only just seen this. I’m 6 weeks in tomorrow and honestly so far everything has been excellent. But be prepared to do an awful lot of study. The amount you need to learn may seem a bit overwhelming so put the hours in and you will be fine. Most evenings I tend to do some revision and this also includes weekends. It will be worth it in the end I promise.
A cheeky routeing I was going to try out one day is technically possible, time for more research.

Its an intriguing point though, but "doable" in the sense of being able to do it in the ticketing sense or the journey sense?

Journey 100%, ticketing probably not unless you don't get stopped.

I would strongly advise obtaining an itinerary and sticking to that. If you cannot obtain an itinerary it's probably best not to do it.

Presuming the "Ajax" referred to is Class 50 046, she was named after HMS Ajax, in turn named for the Greek hero Ajax. Both are pronounced "Ay-jacks".

This contrasts with the pronunciation in Elizabeth I's time when it was pronounced as "uh-jakes" making a neat pun with a colloquialism of the period for a privy (i.e. toilet facilities) which was sometimes referred to as "the Jakes".
Could go some rotisserie chicken, particularly from a chicken place in Ostend.

That's a hell of a long way for a takeaway. Do Just Eat deliver that far? :)
Hi there,

May I ask how your interview with TPE went for the Operations/People Manager role? I'm quite interested in applying for the role currently advertised at Lime Street. Did you manage to find out what a typical starting salary is?

Many thanks

Hi there. Didn't realise that, but my thinking was that timetables on DOO routes are generally so tight that drivers having to walk the train would get pretty expensive pretty quickly.
No offense taken in regards to the General Knowledge thing; it was a question the answer to which scholars and nerds/geeks of the US Supreme Court's history would most likely know the answer to. I'd been on something of a pre-Civil War Presidents kick lately, which led me to the Dred Scott case directly through President Buchanan, so yeah lol

(picture shows the text "Uh oh, that password doesn't match that account. Please try again."

For gods sake BBC, why does your "wrong password" message have to be so awful? I don't need my typo reinforced with onomatopoeia, and as for telling me to "try again", that's just patronising. What on earth else am I going to do?
"This password is incorrect" is ample, thanks.

As @TT-ONR-NRN points out - there’s far worse websites for this… at least BBC makes an effort to seem friendly.

It's a fairly common thing now, this "humanising" of errors. Certainly Microsoft extensively re-wrote their interface style guide along these lines a few years ago, and Apple have been at it for ages.

The fine line lies, of course, in avoiding condescension.

Could be worse.. "Go away, hacker!" assuming that all wrong password attempts are attempts at exploiting the site.

He is still active from time to time, but not so much lately; sadly I think he lost his position at the ticket office at Eaglescliffe (I think the ticket office closed).

Hi. Still around in railway ticket offices. I was made redundant at Eaglescliffe but the office is still open. I’m very lucky in that a job came up at Northallerton and I was successful. So I’m now to be found at Northallerton and sometimes at Middlesbrough booking office.

What are the trains like in the area you are in?
GRALISTAIR

Very long - close to a mile. A lot of Norfolk Southern and CSX with some Kansas City Southern. Not unusual to see 6 locos. Often 3 up front, 1 in the middle and 2 at the back.
