    Cricket

I can do late nights and early mornings, but I normally try to be asleep between 2am and 4am. At least they won, and the most of rest of Englands matches in this competition will be in the afternoon (one of the semi finals also at 1.30am).

Big trip to the Netherlands - advice appreciated

I like Delft. Its easy to get to from Rotterdam, and gets you a dose of canals and architecture old and new at a smaller scale than Amsterdam. Breda is also nice. It could be hot in July. There are lots of open air swimming pools if you need to cool off.

20 mph Zones - Extend or Eliminate?

Ely in Cambridgeshire has had general 20mph limits for a couple of months. There are 30mph limits on a few roads. There are no new speed bumps, just road signs and 20mph road markings. I haven't seen any enforcement, but speeds are lower. Ely is officially a city, but the population was 19000...

Sail Rail ticket: Holyhead-Euston with BOJ for doggie pee break?

Are you sure? The terms and conditions for SailRail tickets at irishferries.com say (I added the bold highlight) I'm sure a toilet break for a dog would be OK, but perhaps not one for sightseeing or an overnight stop.

    UK General Election 2024

The party list MPs could be the used for the ministers, with the constituency MPs as the back benchers. At the moment, if your constituency MP is a minister, then they have to vote with the government, or they lose their job. A minister gets help to handle the local constituency work. The same...

    UK General Election 2024

The Conservatives would need to win the election for this to be an issue. At Oddschecker the odds are: a Conservative majority government: 66-1, a Conservative minority government: 66-1, a Conservative-DUP coalition: 100-1 and a Labour majority: 1-16. Unless Labour have a change of heart, I...

    Budget hotels discussion

If I'm travelling for work, for up to a week, I use a 25L backpack which is too long for the Easyjet/Ryanair rules for a free bag. I'm on expenses, so I pay for it as a cabin bag, but I still keep it in the footwell rather than an overhead locker. The two 10cm USB cables and a USB A to C...

    Budget hotels discussion

I find the hassle of having too many chargers and USB cables is much much less than the hassle of not having enough. On eBay, you can get 10cm cables which are compact and useful to charge up from a battery pack. I need a micro USB cable for my MP3 player and my wife's phone, and USB-C for my...

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

For buildings, I agree. I used to share a house with a mixture of architects and building engineers. The architects talked about space. The building engineers talked about walls. I think astronauts and linguists should be allowed to refer to space.
