    Arrived at Newbridge Monday night. Will be stabled at Pickering for the duration as the track is under renewal in 2 locations preventing any moves to or from Grosmont.

    There were a fair few. Alas the book did not survive. So just a memory. Some on passenger, others on freight and stabled up in Newton abbot shed or tucked away in the station at Penzance. Even spotted a couple of Hymeks at Laira.

    It did carry the name "The General" I believe this was a link back to the Burt Lancaster film of the Train. I think this was because the number was of an engine allocated to the same depot as this supposed loco. This is all unconfirmed though.

    A number of railways around the country and also some engineering firms do work of this nature. The Railway works tend to make use of spare capacity to do contract work. The engineering firms are in it for the work.
