Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

How about this one https://tickets.gwr.com/gw/en/journeyplanning/mixingdeck (or any other website that uses 'Mixing Deck' - I think both Chiltern and East Coast used to but just tried the LNER and Chiltern websites now and they don't seem to be Mixing Deck based now)? I think you only have to...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I can't remember now whether it was the Forum booking site specifically, or one of the other TrainSplit sites, but I had similar issues a little while ago when trying to book trains for parts of a holiday (a few days later I eventually got everything booked, after starting again and booking...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Thanks, I'll try to use that in future if I actually get round to making a real booking.

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Has the ability to choose where you want to sit become another casualty of COVID or am I just being blind? I'm sure both CrossCountry and Trains Can Be Cheaper offered a seat selector before, but I can't seem to do this right now. If I understand correctly, TrainSplit, Trains Can Be Cheaper and...

    The future of ticketing: ITSO?

Are we assuming that we will get 100% 3G (at least) mobile network coverage including in tunnels and the highlands of Wales and Scotland? If not, and your ticket is held not on your person but somewhere out on the internet, what happens when the guard/RPI comes round to check your ticket while...

Cardiff-York - what are the permitted routes?

Thanks for all the replies so far. Thanks for the recomendation, if I had time I was considering doing York - Harrogate and return during the weekend so I will definately try to fit that in now. Alternatively to get the Harrogate-Leeds bit in I might do a circle York - Leeds - Harrogate - York...

    Seat Selection Annoyance

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I get this (screenshot of top of XC booking site delivery option page showing no seat selector button): I think there is supposed to be a 'Choose Seat' button next to the 'Details' button. Maybe the site just doesn't work properly in Firefox. I thought the...

    Seat Selection Annoyance

Thanks for the reply. I think I know the page you mean; does it / can it give you the seat selector if the journey involves a change of train (where only one of the two trains is an XC service)?

    Seat Selection Annoyance

XC Seat selector annoyance here; I can't find the damn thing. I get to the "Choose seats" screen when trying to make a booking but all it does is ask me if I want a power socket and a window view, where is the option to get a full seat map to choose from?

Cardiff-York - what are the permitted routes?

At the end of Feb I'm planning to head from Cardiff to York going on TfW via Lydney to Cheltenham then the XC125 through to York. However, I've not yet decided how I'll come back (which will be on the 2nd of March). One option is fairly simple, XC IC125 to Bristol Parkway and then GWR through...

Saturday return (CMN-BRI) outward break of journey

I am intending to leave the station at Neath, so the through ticket wouldn't be valid; and thanks for the clarification on using a ticket in the wrong direction, I know not to try that one tomorrow now. So, you can get a day return to Weston-Super-Mare, but not Bristol which is closer. That's...

Saturday return (CMN-BRI) outward break of journey

I'm planning a photography/video trip from Carmarthen (CMN) to Bristol Temple Meads (BRI) or possibly Cardiff Central on Saturday (27th May 2017). I intend to break my outward journey at Neath, to film the 11:32 to Pembroke Dock going over the river+canal bridge. The GWR mixing deck, shows...

CymruConnect combined rail & bus tickets in Wales

Going by the map (which is out of date anyway, as several of the service numbers have changed) it isn't only TrawsCymru buses involved. For example, the Cardigan-Carmarthen link on the map is not a TrawsCymru service. Mixing Deck (I'm using the First Great Western site) has neither of those...

First Class Advance on ATW - was this a mistake?

Is Gerald going to be running as normal through the summer holidays? I was planning to try and get a breakfast run on the train, but then realised they might pinch the stock for Holyhead boat trains like they did in the Christmas holidays. My trip would probably be the 2nd of August...

    K506 New Quay Carmarthen Bus

I can see buses from Taunton to Minehead on FirstGW journey planner, but Carmarthen to New Quay reports no fares found. Limited service? I think you'll find it's no service. Richards Bros' services X50/550 do not serve Carmarthen, they run Aberaeron - Cardigan (some via New Quay, but not many...

Why don't the TOCs address this issue (collection of tickets)?

My point is that I would think unstaffed stations generally speaking will have fewer departures than staffed ones. If it is relatively easy to implement for TOCs with few departures perhaps it is also be relatively easy to implement for unstaffed stations with few departures.

Why don't the TOCs address this issue (collection of tickets)?

How many departures a week do most unstaffed, un-machined, stations have in comparison? Since you can just buy walk-up tickets on the train, print-at-home tickets for only ADVANCE tickets would be a nice idea.
  18. R

Why don't the TOCs address this issue (collection of tickets)?

Cheaper on-board fares would mean they would be no benifit in having an advance ticket, and therefore no need to collect before travel, because it wouldn't be an advance ticket. If the passenger numbers at a station aren't sufficent to put a ticket machine/office in, then the reduction in...

Why don't the TOCs address this issue (collection of tickets)?

Tell me about it, I think my home county (Pembrokeshire) has only one staffed (not counting the travel agent at Milford Haven) station in it, despite having three rail routes. What's the point in restricting your travel options to a single train (with an advance ticket) if some/most of the...

Buying tickets on trains - which companies allow this and which ones don't?

I've seen posters on ATW class 150s, and a notice on their website, saying 'Avoid a fine or prosecution' and I've always thought this was odd. I thought they must be one of the no-penalty TOCs because, out of the stations they operate, (244 according to Wikipedia, but does that include stations...
