Now that the blues are done, are the already green 166s going to be repainted as well? I would assume that they'd be due a fresh repaint soon as its been around 8 years since their last one.

Presumably 5Q81 was 166209? At a guess, one of 166208 or 166218 or 166219 is 5Q70?

166209 > SPM
166218 > Wolverton

No, internal work only if they’re already green.

I believe there is a problem with 166219 ex Taunton which is being taken off diagram at Bristol TM and replaced with an 802 to work the return. The Cardiff part of the outbound and inbound is thus cancelled.

Finally travelled on a refurbed unit today, I think they are fabulous and GWR have done a great job. It makes them feel a lot newer than they actually are (and makes me sad at how bad the SE Networkers are in comparison).

Only complaint is that a few of the hopper windows clearly weren't sealing properly, you could hear the wind coming through, even though they were locked shut. That won't do much good for the air cooling system. Surprised they didn't replace them with non-opening windows like Chiltern.

Also none of the electric points were working at first, but the guard was able to reset them when I asked (maybe a fuse had tripped?)

That costs money though, and given that it seems these were done to a lower spec than originally planned (eg a Refresh than a Refurbishment that changed anything), it's all the DfT would allow to be spent.

166211 coming back, no 218 yet. 214 & 217 are the 2 green ones not out today so I assume it'll be one of those 2 going later.

Would have been useful if they had at least applied the class 769-style yellow external first class demarcation... That livery showed that GWR recognised the need for better marking, but it seems they won't bother again?

The 166s don't operate any services with first class onboard so why would they add the markings for it?

Ok so 166218 hasn't been repainted, as expected, but has gained those new door/bodyside markings that the repainted ones have.

The ones showing the seat numbers nearest each door ?

Pointless, as every 166 route operates with unallocated seat reservations as they have discontinued old system, and not added electronic traffic light displays like 802s have instead

Yeah, these ones. Whilst the seat numbers are pointless on them, the other info such as luggage spaces, priority seating does make sense to have on there.

It looks even more ridiculous sticking them on the doors (and ends up looking odd when the doors are swapped / removed / replaced). The original 'flag' style looked better.
