Looking at the photos shared by Modern Railways magazine; I have to say, what a rather boring interior. Not that I was expecting much in the first place though but at least they have less 3+2 than their Greater Anglian counterparts.
Looks far nicer to my eye than the pink purple overload of the very, VERY commercialised 357 interior, which could be mistaken for a Wizz Air cabin.

Nice area of '3-1+2' seating rather than 3+2 throughout. More standing space for the Upminster passengers.

Shame the GA ones can't get the same treatment when they go back to Alstom to have a few seats removed.

720605/7 headed east (on test?) through West Ham (c 1420 today), possibly on 5P93 Fen St to Shoeburyness.

The best seat looks like the 2 facing inward behind the driver's cab?

Yes that was. Geoff's video is up now (and has both numbers in the thumbnail)
Good to see. The 2+2 at the ends and light coloured flooring makes it look less cramped than the GA 720s. I prefer carpet though c2c don't seem to have the best interior upkeep so style they've gone for will probably look better over time.

I guess after the press launch it won't be too long before they enter service now.

I am planning a trip to London 13/14th July and wonder if anyone with local knowledge can tell me the current locations of the 720s, expecially Wembley Yard and East Ham depot. Obviously units may move before then, but just wondered if it was worth planning a trip past these locations to see them. Many thanks.

There was definitely one in Wembley yard last Saturday (24th June). Not sure which one though.

Went for a ride on C2C today and was staggered with the amount of 357's on hand at East Ham and Shoeburyness. Yes was during the day but doesn't exactly look like an operator that is in need of additional stock.

The 720s were ordered at a time when c2c was suffering from chronic overcrowding - with the reduced timetable now in place because of “low passenger numbers”, the 357s more than cover the amount of diagrams. c2c are also contractually obliged to take on the 720s, so there’s not really much they can do without facing issues with Porterbrook.

This has always been the case on the LTS line, it’s always been very heavily oriented towards the peaks. If anything there’s more relative off-peak demand nowadays than a generation ago.

Above post is correct. Peak times need more units, and are regularly short formed due to lack of available rolling stock.

Very true. In the 60's and 70's four car class 302s comfortably handled the off-peak traffic that was on offer while the peaks required 12 car trains on the 'main' line via Upminster and 8 cars on the Tilbury loop. Nowadays there is much greater off-peak traffic on the line.

OK fair point although it does reinforce the need for their to be a national rolling stock strategy as DfT or us taxpayers will have to fund the leases until they lapse. With GA's having surplus units as well going to be quite a few under utilised Aventras floating around soon if ridership doesn't pick up.

I remember in the NSE days of 302s, 310s and 312s, off peak there was a service from Fenchurch st every 15 mins or so... but the peak service seemed to quadrupled at least!

Yes Fenchurch Street in the middle of the day was a very sleepy place, a 4-car unit coming and going every now and then, and normally pretty lightly loaded at that. The peaks were a massive contrast, with the place being more akin to London Bridge High Level in terms of activity.

The off-peak is still a bit sleepy, but not as much as it was. I presume demand remains skewed towards the peaks even now.

The Southend Victoria route is quite peak-led as well, though not to the same extent.
