these are last of the Renatus ones

How much did the Renatus project cost? Seeing as how long they were actually in service until the new stock rolled out, wasn't this a whole load of wasted money now all the Renatus trains are being scrapped?

What was the point?

I too am struck too by the expense and complexity of the Renatus project, only for the units to go to the shredder a few years later. Surely a lighter refurb (or even none at all) would have been sufficient given the short time left for them on the GEML? I don’t suppose any of the new traction equipment, aircon, WiFi equipment etc was salvaged for re use?

The first few Renatus 321s to head for scrap went via Wolverton Works, possibly for some parts removal but nothing was obviously missing from the outside at least. All the rest have gone straight to Newport Docks from storage...
